Skill Successor is an interesting Trap that closes
the week...one face-up monster you control gains 400
attack until the End Phase. You can remove the card
(this card) afterward from the Graveyard, but not in
the turn it goes to the Graveyard. Then, a monster
you control gains 800 attack until the End Phase,
but only if you remove this card from your
Graveyard, and only during your turn.
1.5/5 generous I think, but it does something...

Today’s card up
for review is skill successor. I don’t like this
card at all to be honest. The attack boost from
either effect isn’t that amazing, and I would
certainly use a destruction card over this any day.
Now, if you could activate this on your opponents
turn, it would have been a tad better

Skill Successor ...
This card is kinda cool ... mostly for the 2nd part
of its effect. Cards that activate while they are in
the graveyard are hard to counter. And this trap, u
essentially get to make use of twice. That's pretty
nice, right?
Well the downside is that the 2nd effect - the
STRONGER increase can only be done during your own
turn. Great cards that increase or decrease attacks,
like Shrink or Rush Recklessly, can activate during
either turn, surprising your opponent and having
them ram their monsters into a buzz saw. There is no
surprise factor with the big graveyard removal
increase. What's left is a so-so power boost that
only lasts 1 turn .... and there are better choices
if all u would be getting out of an effect is a
naked power boost ...
Skill Successor is ... OK ... but not much more than
that.

Skill Successor is a cool card, wont have much
affect on the meta or really see play, but its a
cool card. It gives a monster 400 attack and any
turn after that you can remove Skill Successor from
your graveyard and from play to give a monster you
control 800 attack. This is pretty cool really,
boost on your turn by 400 then double that boost on
their turn when they decide to attack. While this
card would have been much better back when Yu-Gi-Oh!
was just starting, right now cards like Shrink,
Rising Energy and of course Honest(in light based
decks) are all better choices to use.

The first Card I get
to review as a COTD contributor is Skill Successor,
This card could have been real good but do to some
key points it turns out to just be a nice surprise
in someone little kids deck. This card gives your
monster a 400 atk boost, which isn’t great
considering rush recklessly give you 700,and it’s a
quick play. But what makes this card decent is the
ability to be able to remove it from play to
increase a monsters attack by 800 atk, which would
be great if you could use it during either players
turn, but you cant. What’s good about this card
though is that you can just dump it in you graveyard
for later use, maybe help get one of your weaker
monsters over a heftier monster. You can run this in
a mill type of deck and have a nice attack boost to
a monster on your side possibly swinging for game. I
can see this being run in a Norleras type of deck
where you are basically playing cards from your
graveyard. This can help keep certain cards with
weaker attributes on the field longer (such as Dark
Creator). This card will most likely not see any
play in any competitive decks, but it did have its
moment to shine during the Draft tourneys for
ancient prophecy, but that’s the highlight of this
cards competitive play.
Traditional: 1/5
Advanced : 2/5 (it can see play in mill type of
decks, but its not (Honest/Kalut)
Art: 2/5 (Its one of those cards that should have
been a common, you cant even tell it’s a holo and the
artwork is bland)

It looks like we're
going to be ending the week on a low note this time
around with Skill Successor. Skill Successor sounds
ok when you first read it but all in all it is a
relatively lame card. Reuseability is pretty nice
but if you are going to run an attack modifier card
as a battle phase trick then run shrink. But I don't
recomend using one of those. I don't see this card
seeing the light of day in our current metagame but
it isnt 100% terrible.

Skill Successor
Here we have Skill Successor,
Today's Card of the Day
Select 1 face-up monster you
control. It gains 400 ATK until the End Phase. You
can remove from play this card in the Graveyard to
give 1 face-up monster you control 800 ATK until the
End Phase. This effect cannot be activated the turn
this card is sent to the Graveyard, and can only be
activated during your turn.
Oh my... Trust me I try to find
the good in all cards one way or another. I know
that in certain decks, there is use for even some
very obscure cards. I am sorry to say this card is
just not very good. When you first look at it, it
almost screams to be used in a lightsworn deck. Wow
a 400 boost, then an 800 boost?
Sorry but just say no to this
card. Both of its effects target, which means if you
have arkus face up, then you can't even use the
effect. The card has so many restrictions and really
only gives a mediocre boost. Honestly I would not
recommend this card in any deck. Take it out and put
in a waboku or threatening roar instead. Even Scrap
Iron scarecrow.
Advanced: 1/5 in all decks both
casual and competitive
Art: Swamp and Lava battleguard? I guess this cards
is as good as they are. 1/5 |
