You can Special
Summon this card by removing from play any 2
Rock-Type monsters in your Graveyard. During your
Standby Phase, remove from play 1 Rock-Type monster
in your Graveyard, or send this card to the
Graveyard. Halve the ATK and DEF of any monster that

Opening a new week, we start today with Gaia Plate
teh Earth Giant, a monster who surprising as it may
be is of the Earth attribute, and Level 8 with 2800
attack, which is standard on a monster of it's Level
and with only 1000 defense points.
Now, obviously Level 8 means two tributes, but you
aren't supposed to tribute for Gaia anyway. You can
Special Summon this card by removing any two
Rock-type monsters in your Graveyard from play.
Awesome, a free Special Summon 2800 attacker, what's
not to like?
Wait, how about this...during your Standby Phase,
you have to remove a Rock-type monster from your
Graveyard or else Gaia goes to the Graveyard. Not a
crippling effect, but this isn't a card you want to
use to early in the game, obviously. Finally, half
the attack and defense of any monster that battles
with this card.
Obviously a big deal for a monster that is battling
in attack mode, as it would need 5600 attack just
for a Draw...but with only 1000 defense, you at
least can break through. Not a terrible card
honestly, but when was the last time you saw a
competitive Rock Deck? However,

Gaia Plate the Earth
Giant ...
A pretty interesting monster we have here. Cute
wording with his effect too. For starters - he's
2800 ATK. Solid and good for an 8 star monster.
There's only a small handful of commonly played
monsters that can attack over it ... but more on
that in a sec... Now some of the cute wording is
where it says "u CAN special summon this by removing
2 rock monsters from play" ... meaning, i imagine,
that u can chose to normal summon too, if the need
presents itself ... why would u ever do this? Well
simply the maintenance cost, my dear boy! (or girl)
Depending on when u draw him or need him, there is
no telling how many Rock monsters u will have
available in your grave. U may have enough to
special summon him, but u may not have any after
that to continue removing to KEEP him on the field
long after. Assuming u are playing a Rock filled
deck, tributing 2 off the field to Normal summon him
will then leave fuel in your grave to keep him
around at least another 2 turns. The maintenance
cost makes Gaia Plate lose marks, but the halfing
the stats of anything he battles with is awesome. It
makes him almost unbeatable in battle by ANYTHING.
And he'll be dishing out damage like a MUTHA if u
get him some piercing equips. I'd invest in it,
possibly, if i were playing him. The last thing u
want in your opponent stalling u out till had no
fuel left to maintain him. I'd call him an excellent
top deck late in the game.

Welcome to another
week of reviews, seems like this week is mostly
cards I have in my binder, except Wednesdays card.
Anyways, we start the week off with one of my
favorite cards from Ancient Prophecy, Gaia Plate the
Earth Giant. Now this cards quite the devistating
card with a rather heavy cost in certain decks,
other decks it may not be such a heavy cost. Gaia
Plate can be summoned by tribute summon or special
summon if you remove 2 Rock-Type monsters in your
graveyard from play, and during each of your standby
phases, you must remove a Rock-Type monster or Gaia
Plate is destroyed. Now, being able to special
summon it like a "chaos" monster is pretty sick,
considering Gaia Plate's high attack power, in fact
it has the same stats as Dark Armed Dragon, but the
sickest part about Gaia Plate is the last part of
his effect. Any monster to battle with Gaia Plate
loses half of its ATK and DEF. Rock version of
Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind, just not as great.
Now there are many ways to use this card, Merchant
Rock Turbo, Skill Drain(with Koa'ki Meiru Guardian),
standard Rock decks, etc. The list could go on for a
little while im sure. The ones im mostly interested
in are Merchant Rock Turbo and Skill Drain. Skill
Drain in a deck with Gigantes, Exiled Forces, Gaia
Plates, Guardians and so on, could turn out to be
one heck of a deck. Sure Gaia Plate loses its halve
attack/defense ability, but still its a free 2800
special summonable monster, which counts for
something. Overall I think if someone really put
time into thinking about a deck, Gaia Plate could be
one really amazing card, cause as I see it, it
already is amazing. It just needs to be placed in a
deck that does well this format, and Skill Drain
seems like a deck to go with.
