Blackwing-Mistral the Silver Shield, is a Level 2,
Dar attributed Winged Beast who is also a Tuner. As
with a decent amount of the Blackwing non-Synchro
monsters, we have a decent, yet semi-useless effect,
and the real awesomeness lies in the fact that this
Blackwing is a Tuner, for obvious reasons.
Now, we have a monster with 100 attack, which
obviously isn't going to win any contests, but a
solid 1800 defense, which seems good, but is very
counter productive to its effect. When destroyed by
Battle and sent to the Graveyard, the damage you
take from the next attack in the current turn is 0.
Not bad, but again, the 1800 defense really hurts
that. Odds are, nothing Level 4 or below is going to
destroy this card by Battle, and obviously you don't
get that effect this card isn't destroyed in that
way. Nevertheless,

General Zorpa
Blackwing-Mistral The
Silver Shield
This guy is one of 3 new Blackwing monsters that we
got to "replace" our dearly departed Gale. He has
200 ATK and 1800 DEF, kind of the opposite of what
you want in a Blackwing monster. It is a level 2
Blackwing that is also a Tuner, which means that it
will work with all of the DARK as well as Winged
Beast support that is out there. It's low ATK means
that it is able to be fetched by every other
Blacwking from Black Whirlwind, which is a plus, as
just sometimes extra cards win games.
The effect is that when he is destroyed, the next
Battle Damage that you would take goes to 0 during
this turn. This is not as nice of an effect as that
of Necro Gardna, but it does stop some
overextensions that otherwise would ruin a Blackwing
deck. The problem is that it cannot Special Summon
itself or even contribute to battle in any
meaningful way. A plus is that Gladiators have a
hard time getting over it's defense, meaning that a
more vulnerable Murmillo or an early Gyzarus can
turn the tide.
In a Lightsworn matchup, this is great for getting
around Judgment Dragon, as it effectively halts the
behemoth from dealing damage to you. Celestia goes
with the same way. In almost every other situation
though, it is not going to be useless, but almost. I
would go ahead and play one as you can search it out
REALLY easy, it's Allure food and it is another
Tuner besides Vayu and Blizzard.

Blackwing - Mistral
the Silver Shield ...
Ha! I was JUST lookin at this card today too ....
And AS a Blackwing player, i do care a little bit,
so ... let's see ...
The ATK? - Crap. the DEF? - respectable enough.
Blackwings aren't known nor played for their DEF
capabilities, but should u need one in DEF mode,
then Mistral would be your choice ... but that's the
thing. A good Blackwing deck almost NEVER sees its
monster in DEF mode. Half the time - the normal
summon with Whirlwind on the field lets u add to
your hand. And then its usually a fair chance u have
Kalut in your hand as well to help back up and guard
against a straight out attack from your opponent. So
then what about Mistral's effect? - It'll reduce the
very next attack (if its destroyed and sent to the
grave) to 0. Meh. It's a non-issue and a very
substandard defensive maneuver for a Blackwing deck.
Though not ABYSMAL, the deck just straight out
doesn't need it. And u'd be doing your deck a great
disservice by trying to find room for what is easily
the worst Blackwing monster in the game right now.

the deck its made for- it's kinda garbage)

Another week,
another segment of Card of the Day reviews, and we
start this week with another of the Blackwing
series, Blackwing - Mistral the Silver Shield is a
level 2 tuner thats got 1800 defense and 100 attack,
when its destroyed and sent to the graveyard, you
take 0 damage from the next attack. Not a bad effect
and has solid defense. Its easily searchable via
Black Whirlwind. Sadly Blizzard the Far North does a
rather better job than Mistral even though Mistral
has a high defense.
