The tyrant NEPTUNE
#JUMP-EN041 This card cannot be Special Summoned. You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 monster. This card gains the total ATK and DEF of the monsters Tributed for its Tribute Summon. When this card is Tribute Summoned, select 1 of the Tributed Effect Monsters in the Graveyard. Treat this card's name as that monster's name, and this card gains the same effects as that monster.

The Tyrant Neptune...SICK SICK ART...anyway, you can
splash Neptune into some Decks, and/or you could
build your own Deck around him. We have a
Level 10, Water attributed, Reptile type monster,
with 0 attack and defense.
However, you can Tribute Summon this card with only
one Tribute, and Neptune gains the original attack
and defense of the monster(s) Tributed for its
Tribute Summon, which can make for some real power.
Now, obviously you wouldn't play Neptune for that
alone.
Fortunately, you don't have to. Furthermore,
when Tribute Summoned, you can choose one of the
Tributed monsters and Neptune gains the name and
effect(s) of the chosen monster. There's the
money part of this card folks. You can't
Special Summon the Tyrant Neptune, but you wouldn't
want to anyway as it would be powerless.

The Tyrant Neptune ...
Ah, i get it. The week following the SJC, we look at
these weird Shonen Jump promos ...
tee-hee! :)
Anywho, I like Reptile Monsters. They are lots of
fun. And this guy is just ACHING to be the boss of
your deck ... But he shouldn't be. He really
shouldn't. His effect? - We've seen it before. He's
like a combination of Fog King and Phantom of Chaos.
He'll get the combined attack of whatever monsters
used to tribute for him, or u could just use 1
monster as a tribute, if u like. (Fog King is better
cuz u don't need ANY monster to tribute, so he'll
never be a "dead" card in hand) However, the Tyrant
not only gets the attack of the monsters he
tributes, but he can have one of their effects as
well. Really though - what's the point? 2 monsters
are usually better than 1, unless neither of them
can get over the opposition by themselves. And if u
already have a monster on the field wielding an
effect - why tribute it for something that will only
be doing the same thing?
Face it - people dont want to summon if they can
avoid it ... u run the risk of falling into a Solemn
Judgement, Torrential Tribute, Bottomless Trap Hole,
etc. So if u've got something on the field putting
in work, u don't mess with it, unless absolutely
necessary. And the Tyrant Neptune isn't even a
"Special Summon" ... if it were - u might have
something there ...
The only way I could see trying to get some utility
out of him is with a cross-breeding ... namely
tributing a relatively muscular monster with no
bells and whistles (ideally special summoned) and
weaker monster that carries a strong effect (but
rarely gets to shine with it or last long cuz they
aren't that strong) ... So in the end u get a Tyrant
Neptune that's hella strong and a great effect ...
For example - any 1800 or 1900 4 star nothing,
combined with Pachycephalo ... U'll have a 3000 or
3100 ATK monster on the field and neither play can
special summon anymore ... cool?
Yeah, the combinations are endless and no doubt
loads of fun to experiment with, but banking on such
combinations to make this guy useful? ... Well u'll
probably lose a tad bit more matches than u'll win
with him.

The Tyrant Neptune. This card has quite a few
uses, and in a way is basically a jacked up Great
Maju Garzette. It cannot be special summoned, but
can be tribute summoned by tributing 1 monster. It
gains the total origianl attack and defense points
of all the monsters you used to tribute summon it,
and it gains the effect of one of the tributed
monsters. Meaning you can tribute Jinzo and
something else and have a powered up Jinzo, or even
a synchro monster like Goyo Guardian or Red Dragon
Archfiend. Neptune also gains the name of the
selected monster you choose to copy the effect of.
Being a reptile I can see some very interesting
plays with both Reptiliannes and Aliens, because you
can use Offerings to the Snake Diety with it, which
is a card that is similar to Icarus Attack. The
Tyrant Neptune is actually a very good card, and
there are many ways to use it, you just got to be
creative.

The Tyrant Neptune:
There could be uses for this card, but I can't think of
any off the top of my head. I never really
understand why these kinds of cards are made...
accumulating the atk/def and effects of cards that
you already had on the field... it just seems kind
of pointless. If you already had them on the
field, then why wouldn't you be using them instead
of tributing them for a monster that will just end
up with the same effect and atk+def totals?
Phantom of Chaos works because you can normal summon
it without tribute and then use the effect of a
monster that's ALREADY in the graveyard. That
makes sense, this card does not.

Wednesday: The Tyrant Neptune
The Tyrant Neptune is a very interesting card.
Unfortunately, two-tribute monsters are woefully
inefficient in this game. You need an incredible
effect like Light and Darkness Dragon to justify a
slot for a situational monster that costs so much.
I can imagine some interesting combos with this
card. A rough example may include tributing a
monster that can attack twice along with a beatstick.
This could potentially create a monster that can
swing for game by itself.
Other good candidates may include Hardened Arm
Dragon or some broken monster like Prime Material
Dragon that is hard to destroy. I honestly haven't
thought out thoroughly how to best break this card.
However, I don't think it's necessarily a bad card.
Just one that is difficult to play in top-level
events. Definitely fringe tier 2 ish (Regionals
worthy).
