Today’s CotD is
Scrap Dragon.
This relatively new theme and
after a quick crash card, I like
their style (both artistically and
how they play).
Scrap Dragon is the biggest
Synchro they have outside of
Japan.
It fights for the crowded
Level 8 slot(s) of your Extra Deck,
so it had better be good.
Being a member of the
Scrap family is obviously good.
Having “general” Synchro
Summoning requirements is excellent:
many potentially great Synchro
Monsters have been killed by overly
difficult requirements.
If this card is worth it, you
can actually run it in any deck that
can already run Level 8 Synchro
Monsters.
Being an Earth Attribute monster is
“meh”;
they have some support, but nothing
really stands out at this moment.
This matches the other
Scrap monsters so it “should” be
Earth, it just doesn’t get the cool
goodies available to most other
Attributes.
Being a Dragon is a bit
better; they have loads of support
and since you can toss it into the
Extra Deck so easily it can make use
of said support there.
2800 ATK is not the best, but it’s
up there and the 2000 DEF is
passable on a Monster this big:
losing a monster to a position
change is irritating but at least it
requires a medium sized monster to
work in this case.
Now for the “meat” of the card: the
effects!
The first lets you nuke a
card you control to nuke a card your
opponent controls.
Scrap Monsters usually have
effects that trigger when you blow
them up with
Scrap effects, and even if they
didn’t there are plenty of floaters
you can run.
So together you basically
have either a zeroed out effect or a
bonus!
The
second effect is also sweet: however
this cards bites it, so long as it
is “destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard”,
you get to revive a non-Synchro
Scrap monster.
If it allowed for any
Scrap monster, it would probably
be broken: imagine two copies of
this going round and round.
Even excluding itself, its
bigger brother we are still waiting
for in the west has the same effect,
so still a fantastic loop.
So looks like we have a real winner
here: strong card, part of theme,
with cool art and a good name!
I can’t stress that last
part: one does get tired of cards
that merely approach a theme name
(but don’t hit it so they get no
bonus from it) and cards named
“Dragon” that aren’t Dragons.
Great way to end the week, in my
book.
Ratings
Traditional:
4/5 – Unless I missed something
where it has to worry about missing
the timing, it’s another Dragon that
annoys all the destruction floating
around in this format.
Just mind an opponent’s
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the
Beginning since it would clearly
try to remove it.
Advanced:
4.5/5 – I like this card.
Perhaps too much: there are
certainly more potent Synchro
monsters.
Catch is a lot of them either
are banned or restricted, risk it,
or are only safe because they are
supposedly “balancing out” other,
more broken cards.
Yes, I am still selling quite a bit
of my stuff on eBay. You can
take a look at what’s up for bids
here.
I
usually add new stuff on Wednesdays
and Saturdays, so if you are a
fellow gaming and comic enthusiast,
please keep checking back.
Just a reminder, Pojo is in
no way responsible for this and was
merely kind enough to let me mention
the auctions here. ;)
