Dark Paladin

Wednesday

Voltic Bicorn, who can also be Special Summoned from the Graveyard if the condition is right, is a Level 7, Light attributed, Beast type Synchro monster with 2500 attack and 2000 defense. Synchro Summoned
(again) by a Beast-type Tuner and 1 or more non-Tuner monsters.

Now, if Voltic Bicorn is destroyed by your opponent, by Battle or by a card effect, both players send the top seven cards of their respective Decks to their Graveyards. Mill Decks aren't incredibly popular but we would have a place for this card here.

And what about Lightsworn monsters? This is the one that's just screaming for some use and/or abuse with the Lightsworn. The other couple cards this week were close, but I think this isn't as big a bust as the rest.

General Zorpa Voltic Bicorn

Today's card is the last of the Popcorn monsters, and is actually to noboy's surprise, not very good at all. Voltic Bicorn is a level 7 LIGHT Beast that has 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. It also needs a Beast Tune rmonster, just like his brother the Lightning Unicorn. These stats are actually not hideous for a level 7, but with the release of Scrap Archfiend, we no longer really have that problem. See the effectless Archfiend is almost better because it doesn't have an effect over Bicorn's effect.

The effect in this card is pretty bad. Ifit dies by an opponents card, both players send the top 7 cards of their deck to the graveyard. So they decided to put a bad situational milling card as a boss monster ina  decktype that has no ned for milling nor really for it? I ahve to be the one to say it, I don't think that this card can be good in pretty much any way in constructed, which is a shame, I want to see the corn monsters go somewhere.

Voltic Bicorn …

The best of the 3 electric horses. It’s a level 7 synchro, which gives folks a fair new option, so long as u have Beast type tuners are your disposal. 2500 ATK aint great for its level, but Stardust gets away with it at level 8. VB is not in Stardust class, but for the right deck build, it does the trick … Namely – building to slaughter an opponent’s deck. When VB is destroyed by ANY means by your opponent, both of u send a whopping 7 cards from the top of your decks to the Graveyard. Now, with 2500 ATK, chances are your opponent will always have a couple options of taking it down in battle, which is good, cuz dying is a good thing for Bicorn. U can even ram the Bicorn yourself into your opponent’s stronger monster to kick it off. What’s even nicer is that it doesn’t say VB has to go to the graveyard either. So Bottomless trap hole won’t protect u from its effect, nor will any Macro Cosmosing, or Necrovallying, or anything ... In fact – the only ways to get around his effect is to remove him from play withOUT destroying it (Caius, Dimension Prison, etc.) or bouncing it.

Lighting Tricorn will fetch Bicorn back after losing it so u can do the 7 card dump all over again. (hence the only reason to even consider running Tricorn) So a fun Deck Out Deck could be made, built around the Bicorn. Or he’ll fit fairly well into the Lightsworn mechanic as well.

And … yeah. That’s what I’d do with him. Both ideas are fun.
Freeza is fun.

Otaku

Voltic Bicorn tries to hard to be ‘cool’.  Like I said with Lightning Tricorn, unless I missed some –corn support cards that require maintaining that syllable in the name, it is a pretty silly theme.  While it avoids the error of Tricorn by not having so many horns-where-horns-should-not-be, the “orange lightning chest hair” is pretty silly.

Fortunately this card actually has some good things going for it.  Being a Light monster is great: if you have a card in hand or facedown, your opponent still has to worry about attacking.  Being a Synchro Monster is “okay”: Level 7 isn’t the most crowded slot.  Hitting Level 7 will require a little more effort than say a Level 5 or 6.  Note that it requires a Beast-Type Tuner.  Being a Beast type is fairly good for this card, due to its effect (more on that later).  The 2500 ATK seems a tad low but isn’t crippling, and the 2000 DEF should keep it from being wrecked by position change.

The effect is what makes this card.  When it is destroyed by your opponent’s card, either through an ATK or an effect, both players discard the top 7 cards from their deck.  Pretty impressive depletion effect and many cards can take advantage of the self-mill.  Sadly its Type isn’t the most optimal, but you can indeed make a solid Beast deck with the right cards (the Baboon monsters spring to mind).  Imagine if this had been a Zombie it would have been insane.

Besides some dedicated beast decks, you can slap this into a Macro deck where it can fuel the combo quite beautifully.  Just remember to include those Beast-Type Tuners.

Ratings

Traditional: 3/5 – It is Chaos compliant, capable of speeding your own Chaos monsters set-up while trashing the opponent, but the required Beast Tuner and risk of being removed hurts it.

Advanced: 4/5 – This may seem a bit high, but it isn’t impossible to splash into many decks (there are some good Beast Tuners, after all).  This score also reflects its use in its own deck.

I am still selling quite a bit of my stuff on eBay.  I’ve had a lot of hobbies over the years, so at various times I’ll have comic books, manga, action figures, and video games on the auction block.  You can take a look at what’s up for bids here.  I usually add new stuff on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Just a reminder, Pojo is in no way responsible for this and was merely kind enough to let me mention the auctions here. ;)
