Friday
Effect Veiler, isn't she cute? She kind of looks
like a lost member of the Fortune Lady clan. We have
a Light atrributed, Spellcaster type monster, who is
Level 1, with 0 attack and defense, BUT she is a
Tuner, which is cool, although being a Level 1 Tuner
isn't usually the most useful thing in the world.
Anyway, Effect Veiler does exactly what her name
suggests...during the opponent's Main Phase you can
send this card from your Hand to the Graveyard to
select the face-up Effect monster your opponent
controls and negate the effect of said card until
the End Phase.
If it could destroy the monster too, we might
have something potentially broken on our Hands, but
to be able to keep yourself safe at least for the
turn, maybe let you figure something else out? Best
card of the week I figure...and she's cute :)

Effect Veiler
Now of all the cards that we have reviewed this
week, this one has the most potential. Effect Veiler
is surprisingly not a Synchro monster, but is a
level 1 LIGHT Spellcaster Tuner with 0 ATK and 0
DEF. These stats are not the best , but they can be
abused with cards like Apprentice Magician and
SHining Angel, and cards that can be recruited are
generally given a bonus. It is also searchable by
Sangan, which is far mroe important than usual for
this card.
The effect fo Effect Veiler allows you to discard it
from your hand in order to negate a single monster's
effect during the main phase. This is very useful if
your opponent for some reason did not blow up on
Judgment Dragon, or you have a Mirror Force set and
negated your opponent's Stardust Dragon. It pretty
much works well against ANY Synchro (except for the
ones without effects) and any other annoying big
monster your opponent might try to play.
It is especially useful for getting around
Thunderking Rai-Oh and Faultroll, as they both can
be really bad effects if they are allowed to run
unchecked. Just basically, if any effect is
bothering you, take it out! Kristya, Demise,
Celestia it negates them all. However, unlike
Forbidden Chalice, it can only be activated during
your opponent's turn, making it far less reliable.
But Effect Veiler will negate them until the end
phase no matte rwhere htey are, so it is a bit of a
toss up between the two. Veiler is more of a
surprise, and can Sycnch in a pinch. Chalice allows
you to boost your own monsters during the damage
step as well as use it on your own turn. I think
that time will tell if these are good enough to see
play, but I suspect there wil lbe some sideboarded
Veilers out there, so get used to knowing its
rulings!

Effect Veiler …
I like this card. It’s been mentioned in the same
breath as D.D. Crow in the type of play mechanism
that it adheres to, but I find it to be a lot less
situational that the Crow and can do more for u in
the end. No ATK or DEF, so all THAT goes out the
window. But it guards against opponent effects which
is about 60-75% of what u will be dealing with
during the course of your match. As I understand, it
can pretty much knock out ANY effect – either
standing or continuous, or an effect that gets
activated. It has to be done during the Main Phase,
so ur not gonna surprise a monster that tries to
increase its ATK (via its own effect) during the
battle phase. And it can be only done during your
opponent’s turn, so this is purely a defensive card.
That being said, u can get a lot of utility out of
it. Shut down that Stardust Dragon so u can activate
your Torrential Tribute. Will she snuff Sangan and
Dandylion? – Check the rulings, but the last thing
that gives points to this card is that it’s a Level
1 tuner. This means it works perfectly with One for
One, should the need arise, and u can use it to
Synchro summon in case ur opponent isn’t feeding u
anything worth negating. Thus, it will never just
wind up being a useless draw.

I am really getting sick of bishonen
characters.
No, I don’t know that this
character is male, but neither can I
establish it as female.
I’ve heard different
“guesses” as to what character
inspired the card and some are male,
some are female.
Another
fun fact is that for those of us
with a Judeo-Christian bent, most if
not all angels mentioned in the
Bible are male.
Yes, the card is a
Spellcaster and not a fairy; I calls
it like I sees it. :-P
Okay, end art rant.
The actual card is very
interesting and I assume will see
quite a bit of play.
It is a Level 1
Light/Spellcaster/Tuner with 0
ATK/DEF but a sweet effect: you can
discard it from hand during your
opponent’s Main Phase, select one
monster your opponent controls, and
negate said monster’s effect until
the End Phase.
Simply put, this forces a lot
of FTK/OTK decks to grind to a halt.
Timed properly, it will be at
a key moment and insanely hard to
recover from.
One does have to be careful,
as
Effect Veiler negates only
monsters in play, so stuff that
occurs elsewhere won’t be touched.
Plus, as usual
Exiled Force resolves in the
Graveyard and…
Ugh.
It
does negate
Exiled Force.
Don’t ask me why or how when
so many other cards can’t because of
where the effect resolves.
This also provides another
win condition: random ruling induced
aneurysm.
When using the card, try to time it
so that your opponent burns a “cost”
for the monsters effect.
Simple, obvious, but I feel I
have to point it out, since it can
keep you from losing any “card”
advantage, or even generate some,
Ratings
Traditional:
5/5 –
Chaos food that chucks itself
into the Graveyard while destroying
opposing FTKs and pretty much any
played strategy?
Yes please!
Advanced:
4/5 – Still looks great to me, as so
many commonly played cards and
strategies will be ground to a halt.
Yes, you still need an answer
on your turn, but as long as you can
supply one this can easily turn a
no-win situation into your win.
