Friday
Arcanite Magician, the Supreme Wizard closes the
week. We have a Spellcaster, Level 10 Fusion
monster with 1400 attack, and 2800 defense, who is
of the Light attribute. Fusion summoned with
one Spellcaster-type Synchro and one Spellcaster.
Arcanite Magician, the Supreme Wizard is just
screaming for a Deck to be built around him.
It's actually quite plausible, and not even all that
incredible difficult, but would need to be very
dedicated. Now, on the plus side, being a
Fusion the Level 10 is pretty irrelevant.
One would wonder why you would replace a Synchro for
a Fusion, that's a lot of investment, not to mention
this guy can only be Special Summoned from the Extra
Deck via Fusion...Anyway, this monster gains 1000
attack for each Magic Counter on it, and you gain
two automatically when you successfully Fusion
summon.
So 3400 attack is good, but we have quite powerful
Synchro monsters available with awesome effects and
while they may not be quite as powerful, are far
easier to Special Summon. You can remove one
counter to destroy one card on the Field, or to Draw
one card. I honestly feel Arcanite Magician is
better than this, even his Assault Mode was more
destructive.

Supreme Arcanite Magician is the next Synchro Fusion
monster, which specifically states that Fusions
belong in the Extra Deck, just in case you didn't
know that. Use Miracle Synchro Fusion on a
Spellcaster and Arcanite/Blast/Tempest Magician.
Right there, it's not a consistent card, Miracle
Synchro Fusion, which is required to summon this.
Supreme Arcanite has one hell of an effect to
compliment its stats, but does that cut it when it
has a once-per-turn clause? You can get a draw 1,
then draw another 1 through two turns, or destroy
two cards over two turns, but again, it's risky.
This is a tricky card to rate and use and such,
especially when it can only be used in Spellcasters,
ironically a deck that has trouble summoning the
Arcanite Magician (level 7 in a deck that uses so
much Synchro stacking and even levels) that will
give you the most of Supreme: Summon Arcanite, blow
up 2 cards, use it for Supreme for further damage.
3/5
Art: Look at all that armor. That can't be good.
Fun Fact: Katamari is quite Japanese.
Tomorrow: Funtastic (?) weekend. |
Assailant
The
Legion |
Finally I get to review an actually good card.
Anyway, this is Assailant of Team Legion here with
your Card of the Day. Today’s card is Supreme
Arcanite Magician. This fusion monster has 1400 ATK
and 2800 DEF and an effect very similar to its
younger sibling, Arcanite Magician. When it is
fusion summoned, put 2 spell counters on him, this
card gains 1000 ATK for each counter on him, yada,
yada. This puts him on the field at a whopping 3400
ATK, which isn't shabby to say the least. During
your turn, you can remove a spell counter from your
side of the field to either destroy one card on the
field, or draw one card.
If you’re playing any kind of Spellcaster deck, this
card makes for a pretty good boss monster, the only
downside being that you have to throw in
polymerization, which might not be optimal for any
kind of deck these days. But the beauty of this card
can actually be seen in siding in Super
Polymerization. If you ever happen to be playing
against a Spellcaster deck, which, in case you've
been living under a rock these days, just won 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place at YCS Atlanta, this thing is
hilariously easy to summon. If your opponent has any
kind of Spellcaster on the field, and if you can
pull off the synchro summon of a 6 or 7 star, you
can go right into this guy. If you have a Spellcater
on your side of the field, and your opponent has any
kind of Spellcaster synchro, BAM, instant -1 for
your opponent and now they've got this.. colossus of
a thing to deal with. Which probably won't be easy.
Think Chimeratech Fortress Dragon versus Gadgets or
Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste versus Little City STUN.
So, as far as I can see, there is no downside to
throwing this thing in your extra deck, just in
case.

Here's a card we've reviewed before, but back
then I wasn't on the COTD crew and this card wasn't in
the TCG. How times change.
Anyway, Supreme Arcanite Magican is the pseudo
"shooting star dragon" of arcanite magician.
He is a level 10 Spellcaster fusion that can only be
fusion summoned by fusing a Spellcaster type synchro
material monster (Might as well say Arcanite
Magician, since Tempest and the Exploder Magician
sucks, I mean it even has Arcanite Magician in its
name) and any spellcaster type monster.
So, heres a chance to go dig out those Miracle
Synchro Fusions in your shoebox
Anyway, like his pre-evolved form, Supreme Arcanite
magician deals in counters, 2 counters to be exact.
and he gains 1k for each counter making him a 3400
when he comes out.
So what does he do with those counters? The exact
same thing arcanite magican does, namely remove a
counter to blow up something. Or if that doesnt
catch your fancy you could remove a counter to draw
a card. You dont have to remove a counter from him,
you can remove it from any card you control, so
Breaker or Magical City work well.
So, could you potentially make an Exodia deck out of
this guy using him and Magical City of Endymion? No,
because his ability is once per turn, unlike
Arcanite Magician.
so......yeah, hes horrible, the only redeeming
quality is he has 2800 defense and is light. So yeah
theres that.

Today we again look at
Arcanite Magician, Supreme Wizard
the officially christened
Supreme Arcanite Magician, which
was originally reviewed under an
approximation of its Japanese name.
I just have not time to play or even
buy Yu-Gi-Oh stuff lately, so
consider this review an “outsider’s”
perspective or chance for a good
laugh at my expense. ;)
Let us start with the basics: this
is a Fusion monster.
Fusion monsters have so many
tricks and shortcuts available but
their basic shtick was stolen and
improved upon by Synchro Monsters.
Synchro Monsters eat up
valuable Extra Deck slots making
dedicating main deck slots to Fusion
materials and
Polymerization (or substitutes)
even less desirable than in the
past.
It helps that the Fusion
materials are semi-generic: a
Spellcaster-Type Synchro monster and
a Spellcaster-Type monster.
Too specific for just any
deck, but within reason for
Spellcaster decks.
There aren’t that many
Spellcaster Synchro monsters
available, but I like what I am
seeing: besides the well known
Arcanite Magician there is also
Explosive Magician and
Tempest Magician.
Sadly, all are burdened by
requiring the non-Tuners for the
Synchro summon be Spellcasters,
making it unlikely
Supreme Arcanite Magician can
show up anywhere else.
Two more are on the horizon,
and one (j.
Tech Genus Hyper Librarian)
looks promising for a Synchro Swarm
deck.
Plus it is a completely
general Synchro Summon.
Supreme Arcanite Magician
can only be Special Summoned from
the Extra Deck by Fusion Summon.
Mildly disappointing but at
least it allows you to Special
summon it from the Graveyard and
removed from play area provided it
was Fusion Summoned it properly in
the first place.
Being Level 10 would be
irrelevant exception a lower level
might have allowed it to be Synchro
fuel.
As we get further into the
card, you’ll see why that would be a
nice option.
It is Light (good) and of
course a Spellcaster (good
considering you all but have to run
it in a Spellcaster deck anyway).
For all the work of getting
it out, you get a 1400 ATK/2800 DEF
monster.
Kind of small, but the effect
fixes that.
When Fusion summoned, you place two
Spell Counters on it.
Supreme Arcanite Magician boosts
itself by 1000 ATK for each
Spellcaster, so usually it’ll clock
in at a beefy 3400 ATK.
Once per turn you can remove
a counter from one card you control
(not just this monster) and get one
of two effects: drawing a card or
destroying a card on the field.
Good effects, but they’d be better
if you could use them more than once
per turn or at least each effect at
once per turn.
One can only assume it was a
balance issue, since a dedicated
deck can generate a lot of Spell
Counters quickly:
Royal Magical Library OTK was a
real deck, after all.
On its own, the classic
Fusion formula would make it too
expensive an investment.
Fortunately there are ample
shortcuts, a few of which are
actually quite good.
Miracle Synchro Fusion
follows a classic Fusion cheat seen
on similar cards for other themes,
allowing you to use monsters from
the Graveyard as Fusion materials at
the cost of all Fusion materials
involved being removed from play
instead of being sent to the
Graveyard.
This basically allows you to
build a Spellcaster/Synchro deck and
slap in
Miracle Synchro Fusion (with
today’s card) as a nasty
insta-boss
monster.
Obviously it’ll be a dead
draw those first few turns, but the
described deck should bring out a
Synchro Spellcaster so fast and
reliably that by your third turn,
it’s ready to be dropped.
Even without the Graveyard
aspect, it can allow you to burn
through something like the original
Arcanite Magician then trade it
in for the
Supreme Wizard version.
Something I didn’t count on
was some solid Spellcaster decks
arising.
Between that and possibly
tricks to force your opponent into
running Spellcasters (Creature
Swap or
DNA Surgery) can use
Super Polymerization to rob your
opponent of resources while getting
a fatty.
It might be worth clearing a
little room in your Side Deck for
decks “friendly” to this build.

Summary
This looks like a large, fun card to
play, and if the format favors, it
might even be something to win big
with.
That’s a nice present, right?
Even if it doesn’t pan out,
it has enough going for it that
future releases hold potential
promise.
I am still selling my former
collectables on eBay. For
those looking for last minute
Christmas gifts, if Transformers are
you thing click
here for a listing of my current
auctions.
The big piece in my
collection sold the same night it
was listed and Christmas is nearly
here, so I wouldn’t delay!
Okay, I would, because I am
broke and feel I’ve become too
materialistic.
If you’re not in that
situation though, take a look at
some of my favorite things!
