Earthbound Revival …
Ehhh … Well let’s just pretend for a minute that
I was actually PLAYING a deck with Earthbound
monsters and then … uhg … I don’t even know if I can
TRY and pretend that! These guys are just so
unwieldy cuz of their need for 2 tributes and their
reliance upon a field Spell card to be present. To
have the Earthbound monster in hand, to have the
required tribute material on the field, and then
have a field spell ready, AND your opponent has no
counter waiting in their back field … Well these 4
things don’t usually line up too often, at least
before your opponent finishes kicking your butt
anyway. That’s why nobody plays them, regardless of
how tempting the 1 or 2 semi-decent Earthbound
monsters appear to be.
Now … back to this card. Because not a second,
nor a card can be wasted in putting together an
Earthbound offensive, Earthbound Revival is exactly
that … a waste. It operates under the assumption
that u lost your Earthbound monster and the field
spell already. But even if u WERE to get them back,
how exactly would u play them? The field spell – ok.
The monster? – that’s the LAST thing u want back in
your hand. If there were more ways to readily
special summon them from your hand, maybe an
argument could be made … …
No. I was just pondering the value in the sheer
mechanics of this card: “discarding and then
reclaiming a spell and a monster to your hand” … is
there something fun and abusive that can be done
with that, that doesn’t even really NEED to involve
ever summoning an Earthbound monster? … hmmm … maybe
… But I don’t care enough to fully investigate that
madness :-)
Traditional: 2/5
Advanced: 1/5
(many of the things NOT banned in Traditional
could help validate the Earthbound deck, and thusly
– this card)
