#9--Summoner Monk
Summoner Monk, whose stats are fairly irrelevant,
as this monster, when played by nearly anyone, to
include a Spellcaster player, is more interested in
what he can do. His 800 attack and 1600 defense
aren't really too important either.
For a nice starting bonus, with a card with
paltry stats, Summoner Monk automatically changes
into Defense Position. Now, by discarding a Magic
card, you can Special Summon a Level 4 monster from
your Deck.
The monster can't attack in the turn you Special
Summon it, but that's not very important.
Summoner Monk became more and more splashable,
and really helped to speed up the Synchro Summon.
You're likely only fetching a Level 4 Tuner, and
then using it, and maybe even the Monk itself for
the mentioned Synchro Summon. If not, you still have
a monster on your Field in the Monk itself, that
can't be tributed.

9. Summoner Monk
Summoner Monk was one of the reasons why last
format was so bad. Why might you ask? Monk got you
to another Monk, then in turn Rescue Cat, let you
pop that for 2 Airbellums and have a finishing
card/field clearer, and you otk’d with Dark Strike
Fighter. That may have been one of the worst formats
ever, and Monk let you otk without having to set a
single card.
Now that it was put to one per deck, it’s not as
amazing anymore. The Cat deck was crippled, and you
will now see people pitching for Monk to summon a
Level 4 tuner, or Elemental Hero Stratos sometimes.
It is still a nice way to get to a Level 8 Synchro,
and would be a staple if our current format wasn’t
so stupid. Slow the game down, and this card will
shine again, so it is just screaming to see play in
the future. It did it’s damage last format, and is
on vacation this format.

# 9 - Summoner Monk ...
I remember when this dude came out ... He hit the
limited list before ever even released to the
public. Now THAT is clout. And he deserves it. He's
got a serious big move built into him. Once per turn
- discard a spell card to special summon a level 4
monster from your deck. The best choice being Rose,
Warrior of Revenge (assuming u have nothing else on
the field). Why? - She's the 4 star tuner that's a
match made in heaven for the Summoner Monk. Synchro
them up - instant Red Archfiend Dragon ... or
whatever level 8 Synchro u need at the moment. Yes -
awesome. The downside is that it costs a discard of
a spell to do it, as often u would prefer to PLAY
your spells as opposed to discarding them. If u
could discard ANYTHING, like a monster? - Yeah, this
card would probably be banned.
Monk's stats arent much to speak of, but he is
also a dark monster, which just makes him even
better. Fuel for DAD after he's outlived his
usefulness on the field.
Yeah, he deserves a spot on the top 10 list.

Summoner Monk:
This card helped make synchro cat incredibly
explosive. It added speed by quickly being able to
bring out Rescue Cat. It also gave the deck
consistent way of accessing Arcanite Magician. Not
much to say otherwise... it will add speed to just
about any deck, but at one, it's just not as easy to
start with one anymore. I personally like to run one
in a zombie deck that I have, acting as a third
Goblin Zombie or Mezuki for the opening hand.

COTD: Summoner Monk
I hate Summoner Monk. Summoner Monk helped ruin
the previous format as an OTK enabler. Easy OTKs let
bad players beat good players more easily than just
ripping a lucky card for game. That's not right. I
don't think things would have been nearly as bad if
Summoner Monk was not a Spellcaster. The instant
access to Arcanite Magician to clear a path for
direct attacks from Airbellum was simply too much.
The second reason I hate Summoner Monk is, as
silly as this may sound, is because of how easy it
made it to summon Stardust via Rose, Warrior of
Revenge. Not because Stardust Dragon is broken, but
because there was an annoying guy at my locals who
was really bad at the game, but would beat
decent/good players because of a first turn Summoner
Monk --> Rose into Stardust Dragon, followed by
setting Assault Mode Activate and flipping it
immediately. Again, Summoner Monk helped a bad
player beat good players without any skill required.
In both situations, it wasn't that it made him
impossible to beat, as there are a few cards that
can counter each situation. It's the fact that it
made it possible for bad players to beat good
players without any skill whatsoever.
If a card helps bad players beat good ones that
much, it's clear that the card is pretty damn good.

9 Summoner Monk
This is one card that always seems to break
rules. We have a level 4 DARK Spellcaster with 800
ATK and 1600 DEF. The effect is that you send a
spell card in your hand to the graveyard, you can
Special Summon a level 4 monster from your deck and
it cannot attack this turn. This was primarily used
to bring out Rescue Cat, which then tributed itself
to bring out a pair of X-Saber Airbellum and then
Synchro Summoned either for Dark Strike Fighter or
for Arcanite Magician depending on what your
opponent had at the time.
It was also used to bring out a level 4 Tuner for
quick access to a level 8 Synchro when a level 7 one
simply would not do or Rescue Cat was used up. This
was one of the most powerful decks ever created,
able to consistently beat Lightsworn and the
remaining dregs of any DARK decks that were
lingering at that point. However, with the
limitation of this and Rescue Cat, the deck was
simply too hard to get off.
As it is, people have still put together decent
Synchro Cat decks, using superior draw power and
Gold Sarcophagus to get to their main combo. I even
recently used Summoner Monk in a Gemini deck, in
order to get Tuned Magician for Synchroing. It is
certainly a powerful card, and although it is only
released as a common in the Spellcaster deck, it is
still fetching a couple of dollars on teh market,
and it deserves every bit of praise it has ever
gotten.
