Monday
Today is our 2000th Card of the Day Review...I
personally was fortunate enough to be here for our
1000th review of Exodia, and our 1500th review of
Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem. Today, we look at
a card I'm guessing very few, if any, of you have
heard of before.
A little backstory on this card...(and a disclaimer)
All this info was taken from the Forums and
Yugiohwiki...it's an old story, and I'm not sure
what happened in the end unfortunately. Tyler
Gressle was a very sick teenager who had this card
made via the "Make a Wish Foundation".
From my understanding, he DID survive, but again, I
don't know for sure. This card is tournament
legal, and there are three copies, two owned by
Tyler himself, and UDE kept the third. So the
story goes...if Tyler is still alive, I hope
somewhere, somehow, he gets to see this :)
Tyler the Great Warrior, was drawn by Tyler himself,
obviously a Super Saiyan (2?) and is a Level 8,
Earth attributed Warrior with 3000 attack and 1500
defense. He can't be Special Summoned, but
when he destroys a monster, your opponent takes
damage equal to the attack of the destroyed monster.
IF this card were in mass production, two tributes
for 3000 attack and a reasonable burn effect
wouldn't warrant playing this card, even if it is an
awesome picture of a Super Saiyan...

Tyler the Great Warrior
...
Well, the card itself ain't all that great, but the
story behind its creation is one of the greatest
things I've ever heard!
If u don't know (as my google research uncovered) -
it was a joint project by Yugioh and the Make A Wish
Foundation - designing this card with and for a kid
named Tyler who was stricken with an illness that
had him hospitalized at the time. A sweet sentiment.
Only one of its kind. The kid was obviously a
Dragonball Z fan as well ...
Anyways ... the card. 3000 ATK ... Great. 1500 DEF
... Meh. Earth ... So what? Can't be special
summoned ... Lame!
The effect is ok. But u can do a lot more, for a lot
easier, with a lot better monsters.
That being said - I give the card a perfect score
anyway. If u can't understand why, (and i don't say
this often) u should really stop playing Yugioh.
There's a whole real world out there. Discover it.

Tyler the Great Warrior:
This is the 2000th Pojo Card of the Day. Kind of
amazing really, when you start thinking about how
long that is. Kudos to you Pojo. Unless
that was a typo, then I just look like an idiot.
So this is a special card for a special day. I
believe this may be THE rarest card in all of Yugioh
as it was made for a child (Tyler Gressle) that was
very ill, and there may only be one as far as I
know. Instead of the normal review, I just
simply want to say that I hope this card was
everything that Tyler wanted/needed it to be.
I'm sure that it brought a huge smile to his face,
and that's about the best effect any Yugioh card
could have.
Also, to all the CotD fans, thanks for reading all
these years. Cheers to all of you out there,
including the other writers and the mysterious pojo
Bill.

Details about this card
for those that don't know the story. Here's
part of a Press Release from 2006:
Tyler Gressle, 14, knows a lot about being a
warrior.
In October 2002, he was diagnosed with
undifferentiated embryonic sarcoma. It was
discovered when he complained of pain. His parents
took him to the doctor, then to a surgeon. During
surgery, the doctors discovered that the mass had
burst, which caused the terrible pain. The surgeon
removed 25 percent of Tyler's liver, about 6 inches
of large intestine and his gall bladder.
Tyler's prognosis was not good. Fortunately, his
doctor had seen a case once before and had been
successful in treating the patient, his mother said.
"After a long, hard battle, Tyler is perfectly
healthy now," his mother said.
"We want other families to know they can have hope,
and wishes do come true." Tyler had another wish
fulfilled. The Make-a-Wish Foundation learned of
Tyler and his family's battle and gave him the
chance to design his own Yu-Gi-Oh! card for 4Kids
Entertainment Inc.
The foundation's goal is to present each child,
along with their family, with a happy experience to
help them feel normal in the midst of a difficult
time. "All I needed was a pencil and my
imagination," Tyler said. His detailed drawing
depicts a warrior deflecting an evil monster's
terrible weapons.
They unveiled the final card on Aug. 5th.
Tyler and his family were also invited to New York
City to meet with officials from 4Kids Entertainment
Inc. and were given a tour of the Yu-Gi-Oh!
facility. |

Tyler the Great Warrior
Tyler the Great Warrior is pretty much the coolest
Yu-Gi-Oh! Card in existence. Why? Because Tyler is
my name. :D
I think everyone knows the story, so let’s get
straight to the card. Tyler is an 8-star EARTH
Warrior. He’s got a beefy 3000 ATK and a passable
1500 DEF. Unfortunately, Tyler cannot be Special
Summoned. You can get around that with The Warrior
Returning Alive, though.
Whenever he destroys an opponent’s monster in battle
and sends it to the Graveyard, he does damage equal
to the destroyed monster’s ATK to the opponent. This
is a pretty powerful effect, seen on cards like
Armory Arm and Elemental Hero Flame Wingman.
So, where should Tyler Gressle use this card? I
think the most effective deck to put it in would be
something based around monarchs, since you will
generally have to Tribute Summon Tyler anyway. He
could go in replacing something like Light and
Darkness Dragon or Obelisk the Tormentor.
Other than that, he could fit into a deck using The
Immortal Bushi, or Mausoleum of the Emperor. The
2000 life points paid to summon him with Mausoleum
would be compensated by the damage dealt with
Tyler’s effect.
Overall, Tyler the Great Warrior is a pretty decent
card, and a really awesome thing to have.
Art: He trained with King Kai!
Traditional: 1/5 Sorry Tyler, but you’re not cut out
here.
Advanced: 3/5 Actually could be useful here. Very
big ATK, and an effect to end games quickly.
