Night Assailant, is an excellent monster, simply
put. As you know, the first effect is the Man Eater
Bug effect. When flipped, it destroys one monster on
your opponent's side of the field. Simple, no?
Then, the return ability. If you have a flip effect
monster in your Graveyard, any flip effect monster
at all, Night Assailant automatically becomes a 1
for 1. Discard Night Assailant for something like
Lightning Vortex and bring back something like
Magician of Faith and your hand stays the same size.
There isn't really a reason why a deck with a lot of
flips and discard effects shouldn't run the copy
it's allowed. Or even, just run it for the
destruction, it's way cooler looking than Man Eater
Bug.

Night Assailant
So close to an infinite discard combo! Anyways
Night Assailant has 200 ATK and 500 DEF on a level 3
DARK Fiend. The stats are actually very bad, but
DARK is always good. Anyways, on the little guys it
is not the stats that make the card, it's the
effects.
When this guy is is sent from your hand to the
graveyard, you add one flip effect monster form your
graveyard back to your hand. He also is a Flip
Effect monster and will destroy an opponent's
monster when Flipped. A syou have probably figured
out by now, this creates an infinite discard loop
with on ein the graveyard and one in your hand. That
is the only reason that this guy is at 1. If they
would just errata the text to say "Except Night
Assailant" the card coul dbecome an amazingly viable
card.
Most decks use this card in the Exodia deck,
mostly to even out card exchange as well as to
re-use Morphing Jar. It was also used briefly during
the Dark World Deck's short run at glory. Basically
any deck that is teching Lightning Vortex and has a
few Flip Effects can use this card.
It is not really run now, mostly because of the
lack of opponent's hand control and the decks that
it works best in are not very good right now.
Essentially htis is a great card, but I don't know
if it has a place in Advanced at the moment.

Night Assailant ...
I love this guy. Oldie but goodie. Was so happy
the day I accidentally discovered him years back
when sifting through my commons of Ancient Sanctuary
and was like - WHY am I not playing this??!? ... I
ran a pure Fiend deck at the time, and ... well ...
lets just say, he was brilliant when used in
multiples .... ahhh ... the good old days ...
Limited to one, he's not as potent as he once
was, nut he's still really good. He's a Dark Fiend
so he fits in very nicely with anything that employs
those. His flip effect helps manage big monster
threats, and his recovery effect when sent from your
hand to the grave to take back another Flip effect
monster is just a work of art.
Ryko may in fact be the best flip effect monster
played right now ... certainly the best with that
flip/destruction effect (anyone remember Man Eater
Bug? ... yeah, neither do I.) But Night Assailant is
a good compliment for Ryko, if that's what ur using,
or a adequate substitute if ur trying to keep ur
deck dark.
He'll never be what he COULD be, unless they
start allowing u to play with more again, but till
then - he's still a very good draft pick.

Night Assailant:
This card received a resurgence of popularity lately,
when Quickdraw decks were all the rage.
Discarding him with Drill Warrior made for some nice
combos involving returned to the hand Rykos and
Hamsters, giving the deck even more chances at
creating or cycling advantage. It doesn't hurt
that he can destroy a monster with his flip effect
as well, so he's never a totally dead card when you
can't use him for a discard. I'd say this card
will stay in favor somewhat as long as there are
cards that have easy to abuse discard effects and
Ryko is around.
Traditional: 3.0
Advanced: 3.0 (one of those rare
instances where I don't think the card is less
useful in the traditional format) |

Wednesday: Night Assailant
Night Assailant hit a brief period of popularity
because of its use in Quickdraw decks. SJC Edison
winner Jeff Jones used a copy because of its ability
to create infinite Rykos as a part of the Quickdraw
loop. I main-decked a copy myself.
It's not as good now. It's too slow for Quickdraw
and there aren't really any decks that can take
advantage of it. It would be interesting if the
upcoming ban list semi-limited this card.

Night Assailant
Night Assailant, such a cool guy that recently
became popular again. He’s a 3-star DARK Fiend. With
200 ATK and 500 DEF, he’s not going to be doing much
battle-wise.
There are a few reasons Night Assailant became
popular recently. Mostly, it’s due to Quickdraw
Synchron. Discarding Night Assailant for Quickdraw’s
summon will instantly get back a Ryko, Lightsworn
Hunter or a Super-Nimble Mega Hamster. The deck can
also use Night Assailant for Drill Warrior’s effect,
or any discard-costed cards they may use, like
Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. If you’re lucky, he can
also get his effect when discarded by an opponent’s
X-Saber Airbellum or Card Destruction.
If they don’t need him for a discard, he’s also a
great defensive card, instantly destroying a monster
when he’s flipped up. Not quite as good as Ryko, but
he gets the job done.
He doesn’t really fit in many decks, but if you’ve
got a decent amount of Flip Effects and a few ways
to use him, it’s often worth it.
Art: 5/5 Totally boss.
Traditional: 2/5 You could get back your Cyber Jar
or Fiber Jar I guess, but I don’t think he’s all
that useful. He is a DARK, though.
Advanced: 3/5 Very useful in Quickdraw Synchron
decks using Hamster and Ryko, but not so great
anywhere else.
