Dai-Sojo of the Ice Boundary is an interesting
enough monster. A Level 6, Water attributed
Spellcaster, with 1600 attack and 2200 defense,
admittantly, is enough to make most people probably
throw this card away. However...
When Normal or Flip Summoned, it is changed to
Defense position, which is good, although 2200
defense won't last for a great deal of time, and
being Level 6, it could and should have more
defense. But, it does have the bonus of
protecting your face-up "Ice Barrier" monsters from
being destroyed by Magic or Trap cards.
It is reasonably solid protection, although 2200
defense isn't going to win many contests, and 1600
attack will win you even fewer. It just really
doesn't seem to be worth the Tribute and the Deck is
merely all right also.

Dai-sojo of the Ice Barrier ...
Another Ice Barrier monster ... Are they any good
collectively? ... well, MAYBE ...
So Level 6 - 1600 ATK, 2200 DEF. What's the point,
right? - Well, he protects Ice Barriers (himself
included) from spell and trap destruction, which is
good ... If that included monster effects that would
be better ... or if it kept them from being targeted
by any of the 3 - that'd be excellent ... but
protection from general destruction from S&T is
still pretty good anyway. But is it then worth a
tribute just to get this semi-weakling out? ...
Well, do u remember a dude named Chaos End Master?
He was one of those cards that only gets better over
time, as he has the ability to special summon from
your deck (when he destroys a monster by battle) a
level 5 or higher monster with 1600 or less ATK
points. CEM gets better cuz as time goes on cuz sooner
or later, more and more cards that fit this criteria
get released ... which brings us to Dai-sojo. So now
u have an easy method to special him out without
wasting a tribute and he helps protect your Ice
Barriers. Assuming u are PLAYING an Ice Barrier Deck
- what's not to like?
Traditional: 4/5
Advanced: 3.5/5
(its a little better in Traditional as there are
more Raigekis and Dark Holes u need saving from)

Today we look at
Dai-Sojo of
the Ice Barrier.
Obviously that makes it a member of the “Ice
Barrier” family of cards, best known for giving
us Brionac,
Dragon of the Ice Barrier and
Dewloren,
Tiger King of the Ice Barrier, a Limited and a
Semi-Limited Synchro Monster.
It is a Water/Spellcaster, which isn’t an
unheard of combination and both sides give it access
to some useful tricks.
It is Level 6 which might make it one Level
too large, since you can’t turn it into a no-Tribute
drop with A
Legendary Ocean and its 1600 ATK is ironically
100 ATK points too large since that puts it
just out of the range of
Mother Grizzly
to fetch and summon.
The 2200 DEF is solid: at least it will
require something more than a random beatstick to
destroy in battle.
Clearly, none of these are going to get this
card played, so onto the effects.
Here we go.
First, when it is Normal or Flip Summoned, it’ll shift to its
much stronger Defense Position.
Occasionally a nuisance if you wanted to go
on the offensive with it, but how often will that
happen?
The second effect is what really makes the card:
while this card is face-up on the field, all your
Ice Barrier
monsters cannot be destroyed by Spell or Trap cards.
No worrying about
Smashing
Ground,
Lightning Vortex,
Mirror Force, or Torrential
Tribute, to name a few.
What’s more, you can build your deck to abuse
this: mix it with cards like
Giant Trap
Hole and Needle Ceiling. You
might even be able to do enough with that to ignore
the Ice Barrier theme and combine it with similar cards such as
Elemental Hero
Wildheart.
For Ice
Barrier decks, this seems like a good move: it
shuts off the most common mass destruction
techniques available, so all you have to worry about
are monster attacks and effects.

I’d also like to add I’ll be selling quite a bit of
my soon-to-be-former possessions on eBay. You
can take a look
here to see all I am selling.
Just a reminder, Pojo is in no way
responsible for this and was merely kind enough to
let me mention the auction here. ;)

Continuing Bad Name
Changes week is Dai-Sojo of the Ice Barrier (nah,
let's just not translate High Priest at all), who
wears a shield on his head, which tells us why his
stats aren't good. He changes to Defense Position
when summoned, but his stats are just plain bad
all-around. He protects your Ice Barrier monsters
from destruction spells and traps, but then again
Ice Barrier monsters suck in general, and every
monster in your opponent's deck can trample all of
your Ice Barriers.
2/5
Art: Seriously, did he not get the message that
shields aren't headgear?
Fun Fact: Most early Duel Terminal monsters were
given names in Stardust Accelerator that were
changed again when they hit the TCG.
Tomorrow: I bet they're doing Naturia Beast! |

Another Ice Barrier monster today! It's decent
support for the archtype. Protection from
spell and trap effects is nice, but the rather
mediocre stats on him are gonna make him a target
for their monster effects and attacks. In
general, I'd probably stay away from him. 100
less attack, and I'd be splashing 2 of him in an Ice
Barrier deck packing 3 Mother Grizzly. I think
I'll just wait for the big boss monster of this
Archtype to be released before I build the deck:
Trishula.
