Genex Neutron is another awesome picture,
fortunately of the Secret Rare variety. Here
we have a L evel 4, Light attributed, Machine type
monster, with 1800 attack, and 1200 defense, so we
have some good things.
His effect is incredibly simple. During the
End Phase of the turn thsi card was Normal Summoned,
you can add a Machine-type Tuner from your Deck to
your Hand. Normal Summoned only kinda stinks,
and only being a Machine kinda does too. ANY
Tuner would be great, but fairly broken.

Genex Neutron:
I like this card. It seems very balanced compared
to something like Machina Gearframe. Why do I
say that? Well because, he does replace
himself, just not instantly like Gearframe and his
Gadget brethren. Neutron actually has to last
the entire turn, all the way to the end phase,
before he can retrieve another card from the deck.
But then... you can search out any machine tuner you
want to... which should obviously be Quickdraw
Synchron. He is the most used machine tuner
right now, even more so than Black Salvo (who could
also be a prime candidate for searching out).
The stats are decent enough, 1800 atk should keep
him on the field long enough to use his effect,
although perhaps something under 1500 would have
been better so he could skate under bottomless, but
at least you can use him as a beater should you not
need his effect. After all, he's 3600 with
Limiter Removal activated...just a thought. He
also fits very well into any light-based machine
deck (like gradius decks, yes that's what "space
plane" decks should be called) as he is compatible
with Honest's boost effect. Overall I think
this card is good, I just don't know if it will see
use or not, people like instant gratification these
days when it comes to their search effects... except
for Darksoul, who also makes you wait to the end
phase, but hes pretty much a guarantee like Sangan,
so he slides into a slightly different category.
Traditional: 2.0
Advanced: 2.5 (if it were an instant
search effect, the score would obviously be much
higher, but the card would be much more
unbalanced...)

Like yesterday’s CotD, we have another example of
Konami specific-but-not-too-specific support.
Genex
Neutron is of course a
Genex
monster, but its stats and effect allow it to fit
into non-Genex
decks.
We have a Level 4 (good), Light (great), Machine
(great), Effect (good) monster with a good 1800 ATK
and adequate 1200 DEF.
The effect is simple: during the End Phase of
the turn
Genex Neutron was Normal Summoned, you can add 1
Machine-Type Tuner monster from your hand to your
deck.
That’s a decent selection now and it just keeps
growing (including Japanese cards, I counted two
dozen candidates for the effect).
This is pretty good.
It isn’t as good, as say
Elemental
Hero Stratos because he replaces himself right
away and off of Special Summons:
Genex Neutron
can be thwarted by being destroyed before the End
Phase and of course won’t work when you Special
Summon him.
Pity, since there’s actually a tutor that can
fetch him from the deck (Jade
Knight).
So in short,
Genex decks and Light/Machine decks should be
running three of this guy.
Machine decks and Light decks that can work
in some Machine Tuners alongside it can really
benefit as well, but space as always is at a
premium.
Ratings
(deck specific-see above)
Traditional:
3/5 – It’s even Chaos food!
Advanced:
4/5 – If it was better, it’d probably get
restricted.
I’d also like to add I’ll be selling quite a bit of
my soon-to-be-former possessions on eBay.
You can take a look
here at my first auction if you’re
interested in some SNES games.
Just a reminder, Pojo is in no way
responsible for this and was merely kind enough to
let me mention the auction here. ;)

Today's card, Genex
Neutron, obviously doesn't go in Genex decks, which
really don't exist. Instead, you can throw this into
Genex Fish or Quickdraw. In Genex Fish, you dump
Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth and revive him
with Symbols of Duty. Haha, duty. This fetches Genex
Controller, which you use alongside Genex Undine to
fuel the deck.
In Quickdraw, you simply use this to search out
Quickdraw Synchron at the end of the turn. With
this, you can run a low number of Quickdraws without
worrying, but it can sometimes be slow and doesn't
work as well as other cards do when it comes to
holding the field down with Ryko, Hamster, or other
cards. However, it does make the deck more
consistent and lets you fall back on Drill Warrior
more.

Fun Fact: Have you ever seen an ultimate rare Drill
Warrior? Ohohohoho...
Tomorrow: Synchros jumping ship.

Thursday-
Genex Neutron is another interesting card. It works
in the same vein as a Stratos or a Volcanic Rocket
but is a bit better balanced. There is a requirement
to Neutron that forces you to make sure it is
face-up on the field during your end phase to
activate. Cards like Book of Moon and Bottomless
Trap Hole will prevent you from searching.
I splashed two copies of this card in my Quickdraw
deck I took to a Missouri regional. Some of its best
targets are Quickdraw Synchron and Black Salvo. I
have heard of players experimenting with other cards
as well.
It's funny how quickly the game has changed. I felt,
in the past, that cards like Volcanic Rocket and
Stratos violated game rules and were unfair. Card
power has increased so much that a card like Genex
Neutron now seems like a well-balanced card for this
format.

Genex Neutron
Effect Monster
LIGHT Attribute - Machine
4 Stars, 1800 ATK/1200 DEF
"During the End Phase of the turn that this card
was Normal Summoned, you can add 1 Machine-Type
Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand."
Ahh, Genex Neutron. This guy has a respectable
attack and defense score for a level 4 tutor. He's a
Light Attribute, which makes him able to be a beater
in Traditional Format, while fueling a Black Luster
Soldier - EotB or Chaos Emperor Dragon play. In
Advanced format, he's mainly used in Genex-Themed
decks, and Quickdraw as tech to search out Quickdraw
Synchron. Honestly, he's a balanced card for the
most part, but a ruling of his seems to water down
his otherwise acceptable effect. For his searching
ability to go off, Genex Neutron must be face up on
the field during the end phase in order to search.
So if Genex Neutron gets removed from the field in
any way (including destroyed by battle/card effect),
or flipped face down and NOT flipped up again during
the same turn, you don't get the effect. It
tarnishes an otherwise good card, and good support
for the flourishing Genex archtype.

Advanced: 2.5/5
