We end the week with a bang:
Infernity Doom Dragon is a Level
8 Dark Dragon with 3000 ATK and 2400
DEF.
This is a Synchro monster,
and you have to use a Dark Tuner for
it.
Good thing we have so many
good Dark Tuners, eh?
It has a great effect but as
you’d expect from an
Infernity monster, your hand has
to be empty to use it.
Select a monster your
opponent controls, nuke it, and
inflict damage equal to half its
ATK.
You forfeit your attack, but
you just killed one of their
Monsters without exposing yourself
to
Mirror Force and still inflicted
damage to them.
Unless it’s a facedown: I
guess it’s supposed to be worded to
reference the creatures ATK on the
field.
The good news is that means
if you nail something boosted, you
get more damage.
The bad news is while on the
field, that face-down Monster is
considered to have no ATK score.
Still, breakdown when you’re going
to want to use that effect: when
your hand is empty (bad, but not
uncommon in a tight duel) and your
starting down something either
-
Bigger than
Infernity Doom
Dragon
-
Probably protected
-
Unknown (Set
Monster)
In the case of the first, that’s
better than you’d get by attacking.
In the case of the second,
you might score less damage but
you’re safe (and if you’re hand’s
still empty, that’s extra
important).
The last case is the same as
the second: you don’t want a
facedown
Ryko shredding your fat Synchro
monster.
It’s still something to at least
consider for any deck running a few
Dark Tuners: mostly you’ll bring it
out when you’re already in trouble
or you can paradoxically play it
safe by emptying your hand and using
this card’s effect.
Unusual, but it happens.
The big concern is Extra Deck space.
Even just looking at Level 8
monsters, this card faces stiff
competition:
Stardust Dragon,
Red Dragon Archfiend,
Colossal Fighter and
Thought Ruler Archfiend all have
generic requirements, and when we
add in easy conditions, we get a few
more.
Still makes the shortlist,
with its ability to aid in
comebacks.
