General Zorpa Sun Dragon Inti

This is one of the vaunted new Aztec cards that were released in ABPF. It is a level 8 LIGHT Dragon Synchro with 3000 ATK and 2800 DEF and requires a specific Tuner of Fire ANt Ascator. The stats are actually dead on great for it's level, annd Ascator is not so hard of a Tuner to use to bring it out.

The effect however is quite abysmal. When it dies in battle, you destroy the monster it battled with and then you inflict damage to your opponent equal to half of that monster's ATK. Then, during your standby phase, you can Special Summon a Moon Dragon Quilla if Inti was destroyed during the previous turn.

It has some cool interactions, and could be fun to play around with, but a well-timed D.D. Crow sends it packing. Also it is likely not going to die in battle unless Honest or Kalut are in the mix, so it is not the best effect.

You could actually do some cool things with Imperial Iron Wall in order to protect it from things like that. You can get some loops going with Quilla, but the best way to do that is with Gale Dogra, and that gets expensive lifepoints wise.

Sun Dragon Inti …

This is an interesting new Synchro monster, that may be better than it seems at 1st glance. First off – it’s a powerhouse. 3000 ATK is on par with the best, while coupling that with a 2800 DEF is pretty incredible. Most monsters don’t get those goods. However, that could work against the Sun Dragon, when u look at its effect. When it is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, u destroy the monster that destroyed it and inflict damage equal to half the monster’s attack. Not TOO shabby, in that a monster will have to be over 3000 ATK to kill this beast, so your opponent will be taking at LEAST 1501 points of direct damage from this effect. The problem is that most people don’t rely upon battle to solve problems this big. They’ll kill the Sun Dragon with a spell or trap or monster effect. Sucks, right? … Well, not so fast! The Sun Dragon has 1 more trick. When it is destroyed (regardless of how), during the next turn, u can special summon the Moon Dragon from your graveyard.  The Moon Dragon isn’t as strong as the Sun Dragon, but it has its own bite to it, and if u lose the Moon, Sun Dragon can come back again. Essentially, if u can get the Sun Dragon and the Moon Dragon, u can keep looping them to continually have one or the other of these pretty strong monsters on the field. Not bad at all.

The trick will be in the card rulings … Do either of them have to be successfully summoned 1st, before u can resurrect them from the graveyard? – That makes a difference, as there are shortcuts for putting Extra deck monsters in your graveyard without having to summon them, which would help speed up, and thusly justify the usage of these cards. Nevertheless, it would take an interest and dedication to the Sun Dragon (and obviously the Moon Dragon as well, as there is little point in either by themselves) to make room for them in your Extra deck, cuz they also each require specific Tuners to get them out. Kinda a pain in the neck, but would probably be a fun deck to try.

So now we get into the "Inca" archetype. Inca is a deck based on Director Goodwin's dark signer deck, which focuses mainly on Sun Dragon Inti and Moon Dragon Quilla. Sun Dragon Inti when destroyed in battle destroys the monster that destroyed it and inflicts damage equal to half the monsters attack points that destroyed it. Also if it is destroyed you can bring back Moon Dragon Quilla during your standby phase. Its a light attribute so you can use it with Honest, and its not hard to summon it due to the Inca deck utilizing Oracle of the Sun and you can use other cards like Cyber Dragon to help get Inti out faster. I personally haven't tried the Inca deck, but it definitely looks interesting, and if you do decide to build Inca you will definitely need Inti and Quilla.

Sun Dragon Inti starts out with two strikes against it in my book: it’s a Level 8 Synchro (already have several “must run” of those) and it requires a specific Tuner (and it isn’t even a “good” one).  Going for it, it is Light (Honest is so broken, I am stunned more people don’t think so) as is 3000 ATK and even 2800 DEF (since hey, getting shifted to DEF position happens).  It has two effects: first if something actually does kill it in battle, its effect nukes that monster and does damage equal to half said monsters attack while it was on the field.  However it is destroyed, on your next Standby Phase, you can then Special Summon a Moon Dragon Quilla from your Graveyard.

No.  It sounds great, but it will take a whole deck dedicated to it to ensure you get it out in a timely manner and get the effects.  Best case scenario you create such a deck, and it works and… then everyone side decks a lot of great cards to counter it.  There are a lot of annoying cards that can, and that is the problem.

I’d focus on the easier to use yet more effective Synchro monsters.

Sun Dragon Inti:

Well, this card makes a cool combo with it's partner, Moon Dragon Quilla. Basically, the two cards are protected from destruction with each other, and hurt your opponent/reward you for destroying them with card effects. The main problem I see with the deck (and yes, they take their own deck), is that it's going to be pretty hard to get one in the graveyard and another on the field with the speed of all the other decks running around, and the deck will probably never be competitive. Nevertheless, these two cards make a cool combo together.

Sun Dragon Inti

This is one of Goodwin's cards... Derp derp? It's the center of Incan decks, which focus on the Inti/Quilla loop; when one Dragon is destroyed, it revives the other. They can be hard to make at times, but easy other times. I've never used or seen a good Inca deck in action, though. Inti has a great burn effect, but there are better Synchros if you don't have the Moon Dragon out or in the Grave already, so you need to act very fast to get both Dragons out there. Sadly, though, because of the specific Tuners and level differences, you can't hop from Quilla to Inti.

The loop is also easily broken by Compulsory Evacuation Device, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast (what a train wreck of a name), Raiza, Brionac, etc., which renders all of your work useless. You can't get around that except by using Solemn Judgment, Divine Wrath, etc., which will just deplete your resources even more. The deck is strong, but can be played around.

Art: See what I mean? This guy's ridiculous.
Fun Fact: The Incans were ancient people who lived in what is now Chile.
Tomorrow: It's sort of obvious...

Dark Paladin

Sun Dragon Inti & Moon Dragon Quila

The latter is actually tomorrow's card but it's hard to review one without the other as they pretty much play off each other, and cycle and recycle each other, at least they certainly can.  A friend of mine actually plays a Deck with these two monsters with reasonable success.

Sun Dragon Inti
Level 8 Synchro Monster
Light-Dragon
3000 attack 2800 defense

Fire Ant Ascator + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When Sun Dragon Inti is destroyed by Battle and sent to the Graveyard, destroy the monster that destroyed this card, and inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's attack.  That would be a lot, so one would think, as we have a monster with 3000 attack points.

If this card on the Field is destroyed, during the Standby Phase of your next turn, you can Special Summon one "Moon Dragon Quilla" from your Graveyard.  Now, first, obviously you only get the monster destruction and burn effect if this card gets destroyed by Battle.  You do get the Moon Dragon Special Summon as long as this card is destroyed.

Now...

Moon Dragon Quilla
Level 6 Synchro
Dragon-Dark
2500 atk 2000 def

Supay + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is selected as an attack target, gain Lifepoints equal to half the attacking monster's attack.  If this card on the Field is destroyed, you can Special Summon one "Sun Dragon Inti" from your Graveayrd.  So they obviously compliment each other very well.

Moon Dragon Quilla isn't quite as restrictive as the other half, as you get the Sun Dragon simply by being destroyed, as long it exists in the Graveyard.  You gain Lifepoints here, instead of burn and destroy.  But you can continue to cycle so long as they aren't removed from your Graveayrd.
