Reptilliane Vaskii
This is the "Boss" monster of the Reptilianne
archetype. She has 2600 ATK and 0 DEF on a level 8
DARK Reptile. Fortunately, the level doesn't make it
hard to summon because it Special Summons itself,
but the stats are actually weak for that level of
monster.
The effects are actually pretty nice, as it HAS
to be Special Summoned by sending monsters with 0
ATK from either side of the field to the graveyard.
That means that Stardust isn't doing anything to
Vaskii's summoning, which is certainly a plus. You
can only have one Vaskii on the field at a time, and
once per turn, it can destroy one face up monster
your opponent controls.
It certainly isn't Judgment Dragon, but it is
actually not all that bad. It is actually very
similar in use to the Spider's Boss monster, Mother
Spider because you destroy your opponents monsters
to bring them out without triggering Stardust. The
destroying one monster per turn effect is actually
very nice, as Vaskii will actually run over
Stardust, leaving you free to blast some guys with
the effect.
Sadly, only Vaskii and Naga are the only decent
Reptilianne monsters, and with Vaskii limited to one
on the field and the game looking at a
Blackwing/Gladiator format Naga takes a hit. The
deck is justy too reliant on a specific game state
to be REALLY good, but they certainly have a few
good tricks.

Reptilianne Vaskii …
The best of the Reptiliannes. She has the strongest
attack, and can be special summoned. 2600 ATK is
nothing to scoff at. And once per turn, she can pop
1 face-up monster your opponent controls. What is
not to like? – She has 0 DEF, which is … well, it
sucks. But there are a lot of zeros floating around
the Reptilianne theme, so it doesn’t really shock or
take AWAY from this card. Her special summon
requires that u tribute 2 monsters from the field
with 0 ATK. ANYWHERE from the field. So the best bet
is to make your opponent’s ATK 0 and use their
monsters. She is also Dark and Level 8. U should
understand what this means by now. Her only drawback
is that u can only have 1 of her on the field at a
time. And that’s the major drawback of the
Reptilianne’s right now. They have trouble swarming
and creating big field presence in a hurry.
… But they are getting there. When they were
introduced in the previous set, Reptilianne’s were a
joke. But the new additions from this set have made
them playable, and Vaskii is the best reason to do
it.

Another Reptilianne monster. This one is pretty
good, but only depending on how easy it is for you
to summon. Making it a pretty tricky card. However
there are some rather easy ways to get around her
summoning requirement. Vaskii cannot be summoned by
a Normal Summon or set. It can only be Special
Summoned by tributing 2 face-up monsters with 0
attack from anywhere on the field. Here are a few
examples of ways to get around this summoning
requirement
- Ojama Trio: Ojama Trio provides 3 Ojama tokens,
all with the same atack and defense points as the
Ojama monsters. 0 Attack and 1000 Defense.
- Scapegoat: This would be the reason why there can
only be one Vaskii on the field, because pulling off
Scapegoat then being able to offer up all 4 tokens
to drop two 2600 monsters that can destroy a face-up
monster the opponent controls, well you can figure
it out easily
- Fires of Doomsday: Allows for tribute fodder for
dark attributed monsters as well as easy offerings
for Vaskii
These are a few of the ways of doing this, you
can also force their monsters to have no attack
points thanks to Reptilianne Medusa. Reptilianne
Medusa allows you to discard a card to make the
attack of a monster the opponent controls 0 and its
forced into attack position. Which is quite the
special ability. With cards like Viper's Rebirth and
so on, its actually not very hard to swarm with
Reptiliannes. They lack speed however, even with
Allure of Darkness, which is at 1 now on the limited
list, which will hold them back. Vaskii however is a
really good card for any Reptilianne deck, however
using it with the token cards is a much better idea.

on

The new heavy for
Reptilianne
decks,
Reptilianne Vaskii
might be enough to
make them worth
playing.
Her Attribute
is Dark (great), her
Level is 8 (poor),
and she is of course
a Reptile monster
(potentially
useful).
Her 2600 ATK
is low and her 0 DEF
is abysmal, but at
least she is bigger
than
Stardust Dragon
and generally
anything but other
large “boss”
Monsters.
There is even
an up side to having
0 DEF; as a Dark
Monster she may then
be recycled with
Recurring Nightmare.
Level 8
might be good, as
that can fuel
Trade-In… but we
get to the effects,
so
Trade-In is
probably out unless
you think you can
combine it with
Recurring Nightmare
(it’d be a crazy
deck, but there
might just be enough
Level 8 Monsters
with 0 DEF for that
to work).
Getting to the
effects, the first
isn’t.
Officially,
it is considered a
“Summoning
restriction” and it
is… that it cannot
be Normal Summoned
or Set.
The only way
you can Special
Summon this monster
is by sacrificing
two 0 ATK monsters
on the field.
Those can be
your opponent’s and
not just yours.
Thanks to all
the many ways of
generating tokens
and the commonly
seen effect of
zeroing out the ATK
scores belonging to
Reptilianne
monsters, this
should be fairly
simple.
There is one
other beneficial
effect and one other
restrictive effect.
The former is
good: you can select
and destroy one
face-up monster your
opponent controls
once a turn.
If your
opponent has three
face-up Monsters and
two are at 0 ATK,
you could pull a
three-for-one.
Well, until
you adjust the math
for whatever method
you used to lower
said monsters’ ATK
scores: 0 ATK
monsters aren’t
rare, but they
certainly aren’t apt
to swarm the field,
face-up, without
coaxing.
Still, if you
can do it with just
one or two more
cards added, or even
if you have to burn
some of your own,
you have something
your opponent has to
quickly destroy.
The last
restraining effect
is there can only be
one of this Monster
face-up on the
field.
Bit of a
bummer, though it
should make mirror
matches interesting.
Reptilianne
decks finally have
some fangs.
It’ll still
probably be a
challenge to win
anything major with
them, but a good
build in the hands
of a good player now
requires good plays
to defeat.
Reptilianne Vaskii
requires a deck
built for her,
though it isn’t
limited to just
Reptilianne
decks: there are
several ways to
generate the needed
tokens, and on both
sides of the field.
I may just
have to try and see
if I can indeed run
enough Level 8 Dark
Monsters and 0 DEF
Monsters.
I am
starting to see some
real combos here.
Phantom of Chaos
is Dark and has 0
DEF…
