This week we're reviewing cards from the Kaiba Duelist Pack, and one of these is knew as far as I know...anyway, just enjoy the week! Anyway, Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon is a Level 12 Fusion Monster, of the Light Attribute with 4500 attack and 3800 defense, made of three Blue Eyes White Dragons.

Now, let's open with a piece about Fusion monsters...Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon is obviously a choice for Dragon Decks, and 4500 attack will stop next to everything. The question is, why play a Fusion Monster?
Do you have room in your Extra Deck among Synchros you're all ready playing?

There are obviously some easier ways to play a Fusion monster, in the likes of Fusion Gate, Future Fusion, and Dragon's Mirror in this case.
It's difficult enough to play a Fusion Monster, despite how much you may want to. IF you're playing competitve Dragons, you might not even be using Blue Eyes White Dragon at all.

Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon ...

"That Dragon's Attack Points are off the charts~!"

As something of a Kaiba Cards week, we kick it off with a monster that holds a relatively special place in my heart ... The first time I ever started watching Yu-Gi-oH was during the formation of the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon and that one duel - between Kaiba & Yu-Gi - got me completely hooked.

Anywho ... onto the Dragon. Is it good? - Well its as good as any No Frill monster with a super huge attack, with no other accessories, and is next to impossible to summon, could possibly be. Ok, there are some shortcuts to getting out this huge beast, or the 3 Blue Eyes White Dragons necessary to summon it (anyone remember Cyber-Stein? ... he was great, wasn't he? ...) ... But why would u want to? 4500 ATK points could flatten just about anything ... but so could ANY light monster with an Honest in hand. And that's far easier to come by. To somehow get the 3 dragons on the field separate but at the same time, u could wipe out an opponent's life points faster than with this.

Blue Eyes Ultimate isn't a BAD card by any means ... Just a bit out-dated. In this day and age, the work that it will take to get this thing out just isn't worth the reward, nor is allocating the room to your extra deck. If u are building a Kaiba themed deck, then by all means - give him a shot. If u do get him out, u will love it for all of the 1 turn that he's around, before BEUD falls victim to a Smashing Ground ... and u are left wishing u'd worked to out a Stardust Dragon instead.

Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon:

Ah... one of the original OTK cards. If not THE original OTK card, along with Cyber-Stein. Go 2nd, play removal, drop Stein, pay five grand worth of life-points, and put this bad boy on the field, equip him with Megamorph, proceed to attack with over 8000 atk points! Of course, later on he was replaced by Cyber Twin and Cyber End Dragon, and then eventually thrown into trade binders when Cyber-Stein hit the ban-list, never to return again (let's hope). This card was Kaiba's ultimate win condition on the show, and was actually highly sought-after when first released. Ha, imagine that, people scrambling to get their hands on a non-effect Fusion monster... oh, how the game has changed.

Traditional: 2.0 (Stein is still running around this format, so he is usable here, but there are better picks now.)
Advanced: 1.5 (non-effect Fusion monsters don't fair well in my scoring department, regardless of atk points.)

Monday- Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon

The new Card of Consonance engine actually makes Blue Eyes White Dragon a valid tier 2 option. You can use BEWD with White Stone of Legend and actually be able to dump the card repeatedly for advantage. I had a nifty Quickdraw Dragon deck that ended up being scrapped due to consistency issues.

Having said that, Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon is pretty terrible. Unless I am missing some relatively new interactions, the most efficient way of getting this monster out would be Future Fusion or Dragon's Mirror.

For Future Fusion, Five-Headed Dragon is a far better dump. It lets you send White Stone, Totem Dragon, and Red Eyes Wyvern to the graveyard for immense card advantage. Sending three BEWD would be wasteful in comparison.

Dragon's Mirror requires a lot of setup to use for no card advantage. And in this current environment, with nonstop 1 for 1 removal, a vanilla 4500 isn't really going to cut it.
