Card Trooper, a card that is also Limited, is
something that was very highly in favor for a few
Formats, but it seemed to be more of a thing of the
past. Once per turn, you can send up to three
cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard and
Card Trooper gains 500 attack per card (potential
max of 1900.) He's Level 3, Earth, and also a
Machine, so it gets all the support there in, to
include say Limiter Removal? Card Trooper
overall is a decent pick, and it really supports
things like Dark World and Lightsworn, just to name
a couple.

Traditional: 2/5 Could even potentially
help Chaos.

Card Trooper is overrated. There. I said it. If I
want to mill 3 cards, I'll set a lightning puppy.
Card Trooper just hopes he gets a shot at someone
and then gets trampled. You get to draw a card,
though. But you might just end up setting him and
then you'll wish you drew yesterday's card.
Card Trooper's merit is being the perfect Thunder
King suicide. Okay, he can probably do that, if
Thunder King is out and nothing else stops our
little Trooper. I recommend this for your side deck
if you like self-milling. Otherwise, Card Trooper is
a filler card for when you first build your
Trooper-friendly deck, to be dropped once you find
the many better cards to run.
2/5
Art: I bet the ultra looks way better than my stinky
commons.
Fun Fact: Trooper was my neighbors' dog. :(
Tomorrow: Dead human shields. |

Hey Pojo, Pheano here
with another Card Of The Day For you.
Today we will be taking another look at Card Trooper
another old school floater much like Sangan. Card
Trooper let’s you mill up to the top three cards of
your deck during your turn to boost his attack from
400 to 1900 until the end of the turn. And when he
is destroyed you get to draw a card. So he mills,
pumps, and draws that’s pretty good for one card.
Unfortunately his effect to draw a card will not
activate if he is used in a Synchro Summon since he
needs to be destroyed unlike Sangan.
This lets him have the size he needs to run over
most other monster that you would see in the early
game like a Blackwing – Shura The Blue Flame or a
Gladiator Beast Laquari. In a Lightsworn, Chaos, or
Plant deck he is a very good card to draw into since
he will help you load up your Graveyard with cards
your need like a Dandylion or a Wulf, Lightsworn
Beast and he will replace himself after with a fresh
card. In short in the decks he would be used in he
helps to get the engine of the deck going which
would be the grave.
In his peek he was a 50$ card because he was used in
the top deck of that format, Troop Dupe Scoop. The
idea behind the deck was to play Card Trooper, then
use Machine Duplication on it to summon out two
more, then have each of them mill the top three
cards of your deck, playing Limiter Remover and then
attempting to attack for game with the three of
them. Now you would have a grave loaded up for cards
like Pot Of Avarice, be able to push for game if
your opponent doesn’t have an answer to it and even
if the do have a way to stop you your still drawing
three cards off the Card Troopers when they die so
your still sitting on the same amount of cards while
your opponent has been forced to waist their
resources. This is why he hasn’t been taken off the
Limited list for fear of creating another format
like this though I think he should still be
Semi-Limited now.
In traditional he can fuel the Chaos engine but he
is just too slow to really make much of an impact on
the game and there are better cards for what he does
like Witch Of The Black Forest for the floater
aspect and Painful Choice for the Graveyard fueling
aspect.
Bottom line:
Very good card and has a place in a few top decks.

Card Trooper: A card with an alright effect
and pretty poor stats (well kind of). Card trooper
is far superior and more useable than his
counterpart, Card Blocker. Card Trooper is a 400/400
earth machine, and, once per turn, he may send up to
(most people forget the “up to” part) three cards
from the top of your deck to the graveyard to give
him +500 attack for each until your end phase. That
leaves him a sturdy 1900 attack, easily taking out
most monsters in the early game. When Card
Trooper is destroyed while on your side of the
field, you get to draw a card. These effects are
good in theory. However, each effect has a downside.
Card trooper is pretty much a hit and run card.
After it boosts up, and loads your grave at the same
time, taking out a monster, it is left as a measly
400 attack, becoming a quick pick to take out.
Also, today’s format has a thing for cards that
don’t destroy cards (dimensional prison, Caius,
etc.). So you might not get his drawing effect every
time.
Overall, I don’t think Card Trooper should be
limited. There are much better things to take its
place on the limited list. Very few big decks
run it, with the exception of dandy warrior. If it
were to become semi-limited instead, we might see
him show up in more decks, and a rise in dandy
warrior. Card Trooper’s self milling effect could
have potential in many decks, and possibly in
traditional with the possibility of filling your
grave with lights and darks. Who knows? Card Trooper
needs to be liberated for its limitation.

Card Trooper
isn’t that great on its own.
I mean, discarding up to the
top three cards of your deck for a
+500 ATK boost isn’t bad, but it’s
starting ATK score is just 400.
So it tops out at 1900 ATK,
which once upon a time was fabulous
on such a low Level monster.
It fueled decks that needed
self-mill, including its own OTK
deck.
Its second effect of having
you draw a card when it gets
destroyed and sent to the Graveyard
forces your opponent to make a
decision: allow an attack to go
through and destroy a
monster/deplete LP or “waste” a
protective card to destroy it?
There are some cards like
Dimensional Prison that will
ruin that plan, and if they do
decided to take the hit you’re left
with a 400 ATK monster begging to be
run over.
Now it is a nice card that most
decks can use but only a few can use
well.
It earns its restriction only
because its OTK deck might resurface
if it were completely unrestricted.
I might be okay to drop it
down to Semi-Restricted status.

I am still selling my former
collectables on eBay. I’ve had
a lot of hobbies over the years, so
at various times I’ll have comic
books, manga, action figures, and
video games on the auction block.
You can take a look at what’s up for
bids
here. Just a reminder,
Pojo is in no way responsible for
any transactions and was merely kind
enough to let me mention the
auctions here. ;)
