Ambitious Gofer, a Level 6, Dark attributed Fiend monster, with 2400 attack (the norm for a one tribute) and a miserably sad 100 defense. 
Tributing for a monster almost seems to be a lost art in this game, so the effect better be able to pay for the investment.
 
Once per turn, you can select up to two monsters your opponent controls.  If your opponent doesn't reveal a monster card in their Hand to negate this cards effect, the monster(s) selected are destroyed.  I don't really see this as being worthy of a tribute.
 
The effect isn't bad, but what are the odds your opponent isn''t going to have a monster card in their Hand?  Being able to destroy, at least potentially, two monsters, regardless of position is a good thing.  He has some potential in a Hand Control Deck I suppose, but even with Fiends I don't see much play.

Hey Pojo, Pheano here with my first Card Of The Day review. Ok so today were going to take a look at Ambitious Gofer, so lets break this card down. It’s a Dark six star Fiend type Effect Monster with 2400 Attack and 100 Defense. So its sitting around the stats of a monarch and the fact that its Dark makes it compatible with some of the most broken Attribute support in the game like Dark Armed Dragon and Allure Of Darkness. There’s a plus right there.
 
Its effect is as follows: “Once per turn, you select up to 2 monsters your opponent controls. Your opponent can reveal 1 monster in their hand to negate this card's effect. If they do not, destroy the selected monsters.” So if it’s effect goes off your getting a +2 to your card advantage, if you don’t though your summon of this will most likely be wasted but you will get some information on their hand. So the trick to this card is making sure they don’t have an in hand Monster to negate this. So you would want to use this in combination with a card that would rid your opponent of there in hand Monsters like Trap Dustshoot, Mind Crush, Deck Devastation Virus, or Crush Card Virus, or when they have no cards in their hand. This conveniently can be used as a cost of Deck Devastation Virus since it has more than 2000 Attack and Deck Devastation Virus is one of the best tech cards of the current Advanced format given how devastating (no pun intended) it is to XX-Sabers the currently most played deck in the game.
 
In short this card has potential but the restrictiveness of its effect makes Monarchs like Caius The Shadow Monarch far superior to this. I consider this to be a “bad” card and to be “pack filler” for the most part.

I mean, umm… sorry but that thing is ugly.  I suppose as a Fiend it should be.  It enjoys the sometimes awesome sometimes sad Fiend theme support, but since it is a Dark Attribute monster, that is what really matters: it has access to some of the best (if not the best) Attribute based support.  The 2400 ATK is okay since this is a Level 6 monster, though the 100 DEF is really poor: almost anything can kill it if it is in Defense Position, and we all know several candidates to force it into that state, though their popularity will wax and wane 

If you are running this bad boy(?), it will be for the effect: once per turn, select two monsters your opponent controls and destroy them.  Unless your opponent is willing and able to reveal a monster card in their hand, in which case the effect is negated and the monsters are of course not destroyed.  The only direct rulings I see for this card is that the effect does target (take that Spirit Reaper) and your opponent can choose not to reveal a monster even if they have one. 

Using this card is all about capitalizing on hand control.  Unfortunately for Ambitious Gofer, the more useful hand disruption/control cards are banned or heavily restricted.  Still, a well timed Deck Devastation Virus or Trap Dustshoot can secure the destruction.  Since it is a re-usable effect, you might even go so far as to run D.D. Designator, basically alternating between turns of hand peeking and (hopeful) in play monster destruction.  Again, unfortunately for Ambitious Gofer, it just makes more sense to run Caius the Shadow Monarch and get a guaranteed single card of removal, especially since Gofer isn’t any more likely than any other monster to stick around for more than one turn. 

Well, this thing is pretty unpleasant to look at, but is technically sound.  Additionally, it references a video game character I can only find one image of… and it looks close enough.  Likewise since the name of the card matches the name of the game, I can’t complain.  Well I can, but I won’t.

Ambitious Gofer (let's see if I can refrain from ambitious or gopher puns/references) is the new wanna-be Monarch. Nice stats at 2400, but his type and attribute don't do much for him. He has the ability to take out 2 monsters with his effect alone, every single turn, but your opponent can simply reveal a card to stop the effect.
 
In most cases, Ambitious Gofer will just be the Inexperienced Spy Monarch. Stick wh Caius - he's more flexible and reliable.
