Today we look at
Dark Hole, one of the many cards
people have long tried to convince
me is well balanced and good for the
game.
Still not buying it, and I’ll
explain why because it conveniently
explains why this is a great,
must-run card (when legal).
This is a Normal Spell, making it
one of the least difficult cards in
the game to play.
Barring specific counters
(e.g. Spell blocking effects) in
order to be unable to play
Dark Hole, there has to be no targets in play or your have to have
every single one of your Spell and
Trap Zones filled.
Otherwise, you can drop it
and suck all the monsters into
oblivion!
Now, due to the nature of Yu-Gi-Oh,
when your Main Phase 1 rolls around
you tend to either be controlling
the field (your opponent is running
scared and setting monsters or using
other stall tactics) or your monster
was bumped off on their turn.
So
Dark Hole can often be a
painless one-for-one.
If your opponent swarmed and
didn’t finish you off in a single
turn, it will level the literal
playing field, but probably actually
tilt it in your favor.
After all, most monsters are
investments.
Thing is,
Dark Hole is great when you’re
losing by a lot, but it can be great
even when
you are the one who has a field
full of monsters.
How can that be?
If your opponent throws up a
great blocker, and taking it out
means any old beatstick can swing
for game, you better believe people
will inflict upwards of a “minus
five” in card advantage.
In short, it’s rarely a card you
don’t want to see in your own hand.
I
do dislike the name, though: in Japan it is
Black Hole, which fits.
They also could have shown
something being obliterated to jazz
up the art.

I am still selling my former
collectables on eBay. I’ve had
a lot of hobbies over the years, so
at various times I’ll have comic
books, manga, action figures, and
video games on the auction block.
You can take a look at what’s up for
bids
here. Just a
reminder, Pojo is in no way
responsible for any transactions and
was merely kind enough to let me
mention the auctions here. ;)
