Blackwing-Abroholos of the Megaquake
#STBL-JP017
Early Japanese Translation: This card cannot be Special Summoned. Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1, you can have this card lose 1000 ATK until the End Phase to return all Spell and Trap Cards your opponent controls to his/her hand. A monster that battles with this card is not destroyed by battle and returns to its owner's hand after damage calculation.

From Bird to Birdman...
Anyway, we officially have a Blackwing tribute
monster, Blackwing-Abroholos of the Megaquake, a
Level 7, Dark attributed, Winged-Beast monster, with
2600 attack and 1800 defense. Now we analyze
and see if this guy is worth two tributes...
Ironically, being a tribute monster, this could be
one of the most unplayable Blackwings to exist, as
tributing really isn't in their bag of tricks.
You can't Special Summon this card, a huge downfall
from the beginning.
You can have this card lose 1000 attack until the
End Phase, which wouldn't seem good, but is actually
completely irrelevant, to return all Magic and Trap
cards your opponent controls to their Hand.
Furthermore, he doesn't destroy monsters he battles
with, they return to the owner's Hand.
This is one hell of a finish card for Blackwing
players, and while not a Synchro, again, like
yesterday, just because this guy is good, doesn't
mean you will see it played. The Blackwing
arsenal continues to be more overloaded at every
turn...

Blackwing- Arobholos of the Megaquake
Now here we have a contender for a lot in the
blackwing deck. Arobholos is a level 7 DARK WInged
Beast with 2600 ATK and 1800 DEF. These are not the
best stats for a Blackwing monster, as two tributes
are not really what the deck needs. It is faster
with Volkswagon Sirocco and the rest of it's retinue
most likely, but the card does have merits beyond
it's rather underwhelming stats.
It starst off with the worst line in Yu-Gi-Oh! for a
monster, it cannot be Special Summoned. Then during
your main phase 1 you can reduce it's ATK by 1000 to
return all Spell and Trap cards your opponent
controls to their hand. This is amazing, as the
Blackwing deck often needs some extra field
clearing. Oh, wait Delta Crow does that better...
Then, as if to insult the card even more, it cannot
destory a monster by battle and merely returns it to
your opponent's hand. This can actually be
beneficial while facing down synchros, or even just
bihg monsters in general.
Basically if this were a level 4 monster with 1000
less of each stat, it would be far better. As it is
it is very resource hungry and doesn't really keep
the blackwing deck in the direction that it likes to
go, something that even Breeze was able to do. I
want to use thi scard, but it is just not good
enough to see table time in a competetive
environment, but could be very fun in casual if you
let it.

The next Blackwing card is Abroholos of the
Megaquake. You're forced to summon him slowly and
manually with two tributes. If you're still reading
this review, you can burn his ATK to spin Spells and
Traps away for safe attacks. Even worse, this guy
can't actually rack up kills.
There's no reason to use this... thing, and it
doesn't help the theme at all. You might say that he
can search for anything via Black Whirlwind, but you
don't want to search out Sirocco, anyway, do you?
1.2/5
Art: He has a funny face.
Fun Fact: Hear it snap? Hear it krackle?
Tomorrow: The giant goes KABOOM! |
