Nantuko Shade was
#4, and easily should have been #1. It was hyped,
and deserved every bit of it. Instead we get
Nantuko Cultivator. Umm, no comparison. But we
don't need to compare, we just need to rate. I
would definitely play this guy in Limited, he's
probably a 3, but situational. In Constructed, I
would not play him. |

This
guy is less exciting when you realize it says
"land cards" and not any cards. For a
moment I was thinking that this guy was a combo
by himself, but instead he's just a way to dump
additional lands in your hand, which isn't as
helpful if you don't have a way to get them
there in the first place. Probably pretty good
with Abundance, though.

I like this card a
bunch you trade land from your hand for +1
counters and get to draw cards which is a great
card ability. However I don't see any really
good ways to really break this card in the black
dominated metagame of Spring 02. It also seems
odd that he is green with this ability that
seems more like a blue ability but Torment is a
wild ride.
Rating
Constructed-3 (a
good card but not superior in the current
system)
Limited-4 (really
good ranks the top tier of picks)

This guy is definitely
no Nantuko shade. However, I think he has
some potential. He's obviously alot stronger
in limited. His development is still early and we
having tested all of this cards potential.
Give it time and it should shine through.

This is a guy
waiting to be broken. How can you make a deck that
gets a lot of land in your hand (not hard) and
this guy while still being able to function if
both of those things don't happen? That is the
question that will need to be answered to develop
this card's real power.
In Limited, this is a GREAT
late game card. Weak early on, it later allows you
to change your excess lands into a bigger creature
and a way to draw to your other useful spells.
Sounds good to me!
Contructed: 3 (waiting to be
higher)

Well, I want to
say this card is good, but from the experience
I've had with it, and the number of bounce spells
running rampant in constructed right now, it just
isn't that good.
In limited, it's slightly
better, but it needs trample or another evasion
ability to really be any good.

Nantuko
Cultivator is one of those wierd cards that can be
really great but no one uses. Why? It's really
hard to use, that's why. I tried a deck with 4
Nantuko Cultivator, 4 Eladamri's Call, and 35
land, among other things. It won a few games, but
there must be a better way to use the Cultivator.
I just haven't found it yet.
