I love
this card personally, and I'm fairly certain I'm not
alone. Counter
your spell and smash for face for 3? In
constructed, its effect was most
prominent in the Nether-Go archetype, and could
possibly see a rise again.
Its not perfect due to its 3 mana cost, but most U/B
decks could easily fit
4 in without breaking a sweat. In limited if you're
playing this color
combination, its a first pick. Its probably a first
pick just because of
its trade/sell value. C: 4, L:3.5 |

Undermine is like a counterspell where I
kick you in the face and punch you in the
nuts at the same time, all Jet Li style. Not
only am I taking out your spell, I'm going
to your dome.
I like that in a card.
Ninja rating: Stealthy garotting of the
neck.

I'm
not a huge fan of counter cards. However, when
I think about playing them, these are the kind
that I like. As old schoolers would say...this
is "some good." The only down side to this card
is it's casting cost, and the truth is, that's
not so hard to overcome.
As for limited...it's a no brainer. If you are
playing those colors, take it. If you're
not...put it on the boat and ship it.

You
know, there is a warm, fuzzy feeling you get
south of the border when your opponent is at 3,
and you have an Undermine in hand. When killing
is your game, Undermine is your man. If you
like the counterspells, Undermine is your
friend. I like countering stuff. I like
killing people. I like Undermine.

A
good counterspell, finding its home in many a
U/B deck. The loss of life also helps against
things like Worship and CoPs, and often helps
finish someone off.
In limited, a counterspell is always
helpful, but having a 2 color counterspell
makes it a bit tougher to be in your deck.
If you're playing U/B though, I'd definately
play this.

In a
type 2 control deck that doesn't aim to win
ASAP, 3 mana is not too much to pay for a
counterspell variant. The side effect of
bringing you closer to winning is nice. 3.5 |

I've always enjoyed running a good B/U control
deck, and Undermine is one of the reasons why.
A definite "aggro-control" card as it allows
you to stop almost any spell as it's
cast... and at the same time you punish the
opponent for trying to cast the spell!! Combine
a few Undermines with Yawgmoth's Agenda and
you've got a solid road to victory. |

Undermine packs two great abilities into one.
Countering an opponent's spell and making your
opponent lose life. Both effects have no
options.
The spell only casting three mana (the
specificity is
negligable now due to the many lands we have)
makes
even more wonderful.
In Limited this is a great spell, too. Counter
your
opponen't best spell and make them lose three of
their
precious life points. Good deal!

Almost broken
and it would be if it didn't require BUU. A
counterspell that give you a free lightning
bolt to the other guys dome for 1 more than
a regular counter is excellent. If absorb
had not been in the same set Undermine would
be rated higher by players.
In limited the
only question is are you playing these 2
colors ? If the answer is yes it becomes a
very high pick.

Congrats to all
of you who will be visiting the mouse as a
result of your play Saturday. Props to my
buddies Aaron Rezepka, Hai Bing "Asian
Jesus" Hoo, and Zach "TD king" Karthauser
for surviving vs. 460 or so others to win in
the South Regional.
A big boo to the
cheater who was caught in the late rounds
with sleeves so marked 3 different judges
could tell what each card was. You should be
forced to publicly apologize to the honest
people who you screwed out of a shot at
Nationals. I hope the DCI suspends you for a
long time. After all, weren't you also DQed
out of Grand Prix Houston for cheating ?
Props to Jim Shuman and the other judges who
took the proper action and are helping to
rid our community of cheating scum bags.

I really like both Undermine and Absorb since
they
have such great effects, except that they are a
little
slow in Extended or Type 1. I really like
countering
in Limited, and will usually take any
counter-magic
fairly highly. Another helping fact is that
Undermine
is U/B, a very popular color combo to draft in
Invasion block. |
