I'm sure someone will break this.
Until then, its not very good. When they
do, it will most likely be very good. Until
broken, a 1. When broken, a 5. |

What
was WOTC thinking? Someone is going to find a
way to abuse the hell out of this, and I'm
pretty sure it'll be using Urza's Rage to the
dome.

Is it as good as Dark Ritual? No. Will
it see play? More than likely.
In limited neither ritual will ever be worthwhile.
In constructed Cabal Ritual has potential as
an accelerant to achieve certain combo's... like
playing an early Twilights Call when you have 3
Laquatus's Champion in your grave thanks to Buried
Alive. Other than a few decks that REALLY
need the speed boost you're better off without.
Would make for one heckuva "giant
growth" for your Nantuko Shade if you can
attain Threshold!

Adding
mana was always nice. It's certainly a nice
switchoff from Dark Ritual. Early, its not
broken like Dark Ritual was. Late, it's more
so. The trick will be to see if anyone comes
up with a good use for it. I don't
know. I'll give it a tentative 2 in
constructed with potential up to a 4 or 4.5.
In
limited, it's uses are pretty slim. If
you're trying to splash in some super expensive
cards, like Hypnox, or something pretty color
intensive, like Shambling Swarm, then it's
good. Outside of that, not really.
Probably about a 1.5 here.

Quick three word analysis: pile of crap.
Actually, this card will see
play, when it really doesn't deserve to.
This is not Dark Ritual, kiddies,
and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
It's also a terrible variant, and
with that, I give it a 1.5. Suicide Black,
and most decks with any amount
of black can do without it. Wizards could
have done better, and this card
should have been at least a little faster, like
one casting cost with a a
noticable drawback (loss of life, sacrifice a
creature, etc). Sorry, I'd
take something more along the lines of Culling The
Weak in extended over
this. If only we had such options in Type II
or block.
In limited, same thing, it's not that crucial.
I'd say it goes between 10th
and 13th pick, and gets played in most decks that
play black.I give it a 2
here, because it can be done without.

In
limited you have the same problem of drawing this
card later in the match but it is maybe a little
stronger than in constructed due to the fact that
in most current block limited you have a higher
mana curve than in constructed.
Overall
this card just doesn't have the power to make it very
good but it does have certain situational
benefits.

Cabal Ritual, while completely different than
its Dark
cousin, will see play in numerous decks in the
upcoming type 2 format. Some will play it
thinking it
to be like Dark Ritual, but others will actually
find
its real use. This will be played in combo
decks and
fast black decks alike.
In limited, there are hardly any cards that you'd
want
this much black mana for. Don't play it.
Ever.

I really don't care for the "New Dark
Ritual" all that
much. It only gives you a one turn boost on
your mana
and doesn't really help too much by the time you
hit
Threshold. Even in Constructed, it's pretty
hard to
make a whole lot of good out of the ritual.
We'll see
how Randy Buehler was making turn 2 Threshold
sooner
or later.
