Another card that's happy to see Buried Alive
reprinted. Actually Torment looks like a set
that will love any card that can get cards into
the graveyard come to think of it. Ichorid
is again a Rare, while decent in Limited it is by
no means a bomb.
In constructed Ichorid will be best suited for a
Black creature rush deck. All the decks
other black creatures will fuel Ichorids recursion
once they go to the graveyard.

That
whole "at end of turn sacrifice" thing
makes this card a big pile of poop. It's got
some potential, but it just doesn't have the
awesomeness like Ashen ghoul or Krovikian
Horror. It's pretty mediocre, acutally.

This is one of the cards I feel the least
confident rating. He may find himself to be
absolutely great in a couple decks, or he may be
slightly sub par in general. I really like
the fact that I can't peg this guy as a good card
or a bad card, but I do think he'll see some play,
and a truly good deckbuilder MAY make a great deck
with him, so he'd see a lot of play.
Tentatively...

In Limited, this guy is going to be an almost
automatic first pick in my book. It might
actually be
better than Nether Spirit in this block and could,
possibly, bring back Nether-Go (well, sort of).
I
love Nether Spirit and I don't think it will be
too
hard to warm up to this little critter.

Ichorid
This
card is the answer to the question "If
they made a bad Nether Spirit what would it look
like ?" It is a 3/1 with haste for 4 mana
which means it is overcosted and easy to kill. The
fact that you have to remove a black creature from
your graveyard for the recursion means that
1)early recursion will be unlikely, 2) it's not
very useful in 2 color or 3 color decks and 3)
there are better 4 mana black creatures in this
set like Gloomdrifter, Faceless Butcher and
Shambling Swarm.

This is the one I'm waiting for! Ichorid
provides a
mechanic that I just love, the ability to bring
itself
back from the graveyard. And did that BLACK
creature
say Haste? Oh my, black is soon picking up a
lot of
tricks, maybe even more than blue. Look for
this one
to pop up everywhere folks, 'cause its a keeper.
This card doesn't get much worse in Limited.
A few
less black creatures to remove, but a higher
frequency
of them getting there almost equals out.
Recurrable
damage and creatures are great ways to win in
sealed
and draft. Again, this one is a keeper!

Interesting. Between
this guy and the new shade (which I wasn't huge
on), I think that black weenie/beatdown might be
able to start making a decent showing. It's
interesting that he recurs all by himself
(assuming there are other dead creatures of
course). Also, with only one black mana in
the casting cost, it might become useful to two
color decks. Green/Black or Red/Black might
be able to use Ichorid to push it's speed up and
it's another creature you can get back after a
Wrath of God to continually wreak havoc.
In limited, I think Ichorid is just mediocre.
He doesn't to much, since he has no evasion.
He is a one toughness which makes him
vulnerable to a lot of spells. Also, the
fact that he dies at the end of turn is very bad.
I wouldn't pass him up totally in a draft,
but I am just not sure that it is anywhere near a
top three pick from a pack.

I am not sure how good this card
is. I think in a mono-black creature based
deck, this guy could be very good. In
Limited, I don't know how good he is
because he has to sac himself at the end of every
turn. Only a 2 in
Limited. Constructed he's going to see play
and I'll give him a 3.5 (4.5
potential). |
