I don't
know that I like this card very much, its too
situational. Compare this to Squirrel's Nest which
will always put out a squirrel every turn. A 2 in
Constructed, 2.5 in limited. |

In constructed, I
don't see enough effects that will make use of
this card. Maybe against Zombie Infestation or
Wild Mongrel, but thats about it. It may be good
in the side against the madness deck, if it ever
hits the board.
In limited, however,
I really like this card. It gives you a flier,
which is hard to deal with in limited. And it's
reusable. Just remember to activate it, since
you don't have to do it's effect.

We were building block
decks this past week and we looked at this card.
there are a few tricks to utilize it, but
I'm not really sure how you could totally take
advantage of it. I do think if it is going
to get played, it will definitely be in
constructed.
In limited I think this card is terrible. I
would probably just pass this card along and let
some one else think about how they choose to use
it.

This card is
definitely a good combination card with some deck
styles, but I see it mostly seeing Limited use. A
decent card to have in your deck considering the
way Looters and such dominate the board.

Constructed **
In limited, there's just too many cards that have
the words "discard a card for X" for
this card to EVER be useless. If I had even
1 or 2 spells in my sealed deck or draft I would
play this card. Looter and this card on the
table is really outrageous if the opponent doesn't
break up the combo FAST! Even if they do
deal with your Looter, Spirit Cairn will
definitely punish them for playing with the likes
of the almighty Wild Mongrel and such.
While much more limited in constructed use, can
you imagine Compulsion AND Spirit Cairn
together... who the heck plays enchantment
removal!?!? And gee, nobody plays with
Mongrel or Psychatog in Constructed decks do they?

Spirit Cairn is
clearly a card that wants to have a deck built
around it, but it is far too weak to justify it,
especially since the cards that would go with it
have little to no synergy of their own. Some talk
of it being the kill in a deck built around
Solitary Confinement, but even there I'd rather
have a normal kill that was halfway decent without
the Confinement, like Beloved Chaplain or
something.

2W casting cost
which for W lets you buy a 1/1 flying token when
your opponent discards. Seems very narrow to me.
It might see some OBC constructed sideboards for
the madness deck but a 1/1 doesn't seem to block
many of the madness creatures very well. In
limited files this under I for "I must be
stupid to play this in a deck."

A discard hoser is interesting, and
almost powerful enough to warrant some play in
block. In the end, I think it will be too
situational and too slow to prove useful.
