Savannah Lions
were a conventional 1 drop for a color that USED
TO have some speed to it. A solid attacker with no
drawbacks, Magic wasn't as fancy as it is now.
It was a staple in almost
every white deck of its time.
In limited, it would be just
as good, but perhaps not a high pick as it
influences the game very little on its own.

Well, with last week
behind us, we start a week of hopefully decent
cards. The first being Savannah Lions.
This is the original 2/1 for 1 mana. This
card saw a solid bit of play in its day. Unfortunately,
now it only gets around rarely in type one. There
is nothing wrong with this card at all. Funny
thing is, it was originally a rare. It also
allowed white to have some a speedy once caster,
which it's not used to having.
In limited, I wouldn't imagine this card to be a
big deal. It is a 2/1 for one, but I
wouldn't consider it to be an early pick. Besides,
at this point, any draft that these lions are in
would be an expensive one, pack wise :)

A 2/1 creature for one mana with absolutely no
drawback. Obviously a staple in WW until its
leaving the format. A very solid 4 in both
formats, as its far above the 'average' in its
ability vs cost. |

What
needs to be said about one of the most efficient
cards ever printed? This card was underrated by
me when I first saw it - mostly because it was
only a 2/1 and I thought weenies sucked. Then I
saw PT Jank (or the Richmond Gun) and I was
completely sold. First turn beats are very
solid.

1 mana for a 2/1 with zero
drawbacks. You do the math!!
Also factor in Savanah Lion
is white (the defensive color) and you'd quickly
see that Savanah Lion is one of the best white
creatures EVER in constructed environments. The
ultimate white weenie and definitely worthy of
bomb designation.
Not necessarily a bomb in
limited but terribly efficient none the less. What
more can you ask for in a 1 drop?! It's not gonna
change the outcome of a game in the later stages
but can deal a whole ton of damage if drawn in
your opening hand.

I have always like Savannah
Lions. They were great in the original White
Weenie decks and the PT Jank decks of yore. In
limited, they can get a few quick beats in before
your opponent has anything to block with that they
don't need. In constructed, they are a Jackal Pup
with no bad sides. How can you go wrong there?

How many of you
remember the day when there were creatures
with 2 power for 1 mana with no drawbacks ? Not
many. Well they used to exsist and this one was
the best of them all. He was a staple of all
white decks and many other decks that ran white
like the great Ernhamgeddon deck. WOTC dropped
him as too powerful before 5th edition and then
went on to print lots of less powerful cards
like Morphling, Tolarian Academy, Nercropotence,
and Memory Jar. How I long for the simpler
times.
