As mentioned a couple
days ago, this card is a fun combo with
Angelic Chorus. Another one of the most
popular casual play cards around, and also one of
the most difficult to obtain, hence the crazy
price.

Another popular
casual play card, as people like the big
creatures, and they just don't get any bigger
than this. The fact that she never really dies
is great, too, as you can always count on her
being there in the late game.
In limited, if you
can support her, you play her. Period.

This card has 2 uses:
to be sneak attack'd out or to prevent you from
being
decked. Otherwise it's too expensive to cast in
constructed and when you
can cast it in limited, it'll only be of mediocre
size.

Serra Avatar – Was,
IIRC, the kill creature in my first generation of
Oath decks way back in the day when Oath was new.
In the proper deck the card can be a beat stick
but a lot of control and/or life gain would have
to be included since the Casting Cost means that
the opponent has had a lot of time to whittle you
down. More of a ‘win more card’ I don’t like it
and think it is another example of an overcosted
power card. Hey at least it is flashy.
Constructed – Too
pricey for most decks and not effective unless the
rest of your deck works – 2.75
Limited – Costs a lot,
no evasion, and a real ‘win more card’ here – 2.00 |

Serra Avatar
Freaking expensive!
Pretty obvious you'd have to build a deck around
this to get it to work consistantly.
Limited: Can be
HUGE!

Serra Avatar
In constructed this was sneak attack decks
weapon of choice. a 20/20 with haste that shuffles
back into you deck? Yikes!
In limited shes good, but not as good as
you'd think. Stalling to cast this and making sure
you don't take that much damage could net you a
huge 7 CC creature. Then just swing away with your
death machine. Usually at a normal rate it was
about 10/10 and then some. There was a funny
formated fun draft I was once in where this thing
got Soul Severed lol.

Serra Avatar makes for
an interesting combo card, as decks like Cluster
Bomb
have utilized it to make infinite mana (Fecundity
+ Saproling Cluster +
Ashnod's Altar + Serra Avatar), but the problem
now is that anything that
can be done with Serra Avatar can just as easily
be done with Legacy Weapon.
As a creature, Serra Avatar can be potent, but is
also really pricy. It's
best utilized with Sneak Attack or Elvish Piper to
get it into play earlier
than usual. Otherwise, it does cost a lot, and by
the time the mana is
there to play it in extended, you're either dead,
about to die, or visa
versa for your opponent.
In limited, it's a large body, but if you are
getting completely hammered by
an opponent, by the time you play this, it's not
going to be enough.
However, that doesn't stop it from being a 13/13
or so if you play it turn
7. It should be a first pick, because I don't see
many things going before
it, but there might be that one card that helps
you more than this card. A
rare instance though. All in all, this card is a
holy terror for your
opponent (badumphchh!).
Constructed - 3.0/5.0 (More for Combo's that don't
have to play it)
Limited - 4.8/5.0 (Large body that will be really
lethal in almost any deck,
but doesn't evade well enough to warrant a 5) |
