This
card just hasn't seen a lot of play in
constructed, because of all the other good removal
cards that have been created over the years.
In limited, I would definitely take it. It's
a high pick that can kill a ton of different
creatures.

Dark Banishing has
been a staple card since Terror leaving the
environment. In constructed, to be able to
deal with most anything for 3 mana is pretty
good. In limited, it's REAL good since it
can very easily negate most bombs with no
negative side effect.
In limited, it's a
no brainer in black - you play it. In
constructed, if it's not in the main, it needs
to be considered
for the side.

Dark
Banishing had the unfortunate job of replacing
Terror in 7th Edition as blacks standard creature
destruction spell. It has failed miserably at the
job, and the fact that no one is playing it is
testament to that. It is not necessarily a bad
card, but Terror was infinitely better, and Type
II right now, as well as Extended, have better
ways to kill creatures. In Constructed, a 2.
In limited, removal is good.
It is always going to be a high pick, usually
within the first 5 picks, and is a killer. I give
this card a 3.5, because it has no neat trick like
Agonizing Demise, and isn't exactly cheap like
Terror or Terminate.

Dark Banishing
Instant speed
removal that takes away regeneration has always
been good. Dark Banishing has a reasonable cost
2B, and is targeted (unlike edict or blood) so
it is still valuable. In today's format Edict
and I-Blood are generally better because they
can kill Togs. But Banishing is still a useful
card.

Dark
Banishing is a very solid pick in draft as is most
removal of this kind. If there are no cheaper
alternatives, Black players always end up putting
these in their Constructed sideboards. Limited a
3.5, Constructed a 2.5. |

A solid removal
card. Back in the day though, we could pay one
less if we didn't want to hit artifacts. Shows
you the overall weakening of the base set =\.
Play it in limited;
a solid start to a person's Magic career in
constructed, but you'll soon find yourself
moving on to better cards. Especially Nekrataal
(next year).
