This guy is ridiculous.  Amazing.  Awesome.  Remember kiddies, hius ability does not say, "Play this only once each turn".  Smack your opponent, then unload with any extra mana you have lying around.  On top of that, it's a solid 2/2 for 2 bear.  You'd expect this ability on a 1/1 for 2, not a 2/2 for 2.  Man, if weenie black makes ANY form of an appearance in Kamigawa, this guy will be leading the parade with arms waving.  Oh yeah - he's a spirit too.  Guess they like strong commons.

Oh yeah - while you're at it, just play him in limited too.  If you're going heavy black, play him.  He can swing a game in your favor fast.

Dude...this guy is wicked cool!  An amazing bear 2/2 that can really do some evil damage if you play it right.  Give him some boosts with an enchantment or an equipment, or make it unblockable, and this thing can turn into quite a horrible situation for your opponent. In casual, throw a Whispersilk Cloak on it, and Akuba is unblockable and untargetable...your opponent will need artifact removal AND burn to get rid of him. Or, just skip combat (note that it's ability does not require the damage be combat damage, so any damage done with it to your opponent will do) and make it a pinging machine with Viridian Longbow, or something, then do even more damage with it's B ability.

In limited, not to shabby either.  If you're playing heavy black, and you have a way to give him some evasion, this could really hurt your opponent.  Even without his ability, he's a seriously solid 2 drop for heavy black builds.

A very dangerous creature. A 2/2 for 2 mana is a bargain in and of itself. but turn this into a Drain Life (the damage part) should this hit, and it becomes necessary to prevent this from hitting at almost any cost. Give this guy evasion, and your opponent's got problems.

Might actually fit in a MBC deck, should one be viable when this is constructed legal.

In casual, there's a lot splashier creatures to play. Note, however, that it doesn't need to be combat damage for the ability. This means you can put something like Psionic Gift on this, and go to town.

This 2/2 for two black mana creature will make a splash in both constructed
and limited decks, but may actually be a little better in constructed. If
Wicked Akuba damages your opponent, you can spend one black mana to cause
that same opponent to lose one life. You can use this ability as many times
as you have black mana to spend. This common black Spirit card's ability is
actually a downgrade from a pump-up ability, since a two power blocker can
kill it. Wicked Akuba's ability is more likely to matter in constructed
games.

It might be too early to say, but this guy may be the next Nantuku Shade. A 2/2 for BB, he’s slightly better in that category, and after the first damage, everything he does that turn is loss of life, making it a nice way to get around any damage reversal spells or prevention spell (provided they don’t prevent the initial damage). The downside of course being that he will always be a 2/2, making him pretty horrible as a big blocker, and kind of easy to kill. Nonetheless, this guy is a strong limited pick, and may see some constructed play.

This guy is simply scary. If you let him through, you have to start counting up your opponent's available black mana. It's cheap to cast too. Black has needed a few more quality small creatures, so maybe this was the last guy to start the revolution.

I'm not sure casual players would care much for a card like this. It's not big enough to scare your opponent or survive most kill spells. However, with it being a common, this is going to be an extremely hot card in limited formats of all kinds.

Wicked Akuba --

I'm really liking this card.  For two black mana, you get a 2/2 with no drawback, which is a bit of a rarity recently.  His ability is really only OK, but every little bit of life loss helps.  It's *almost* like getting a 3/3 for 2, but not really.  For constructed purposes, the Akuba is stronger than your average bear.

For casual players, I think the wider selection of cards really leaves this guy at the side of the road.  Black Knight or any of the Dauthi 2-Drops are better.

In limited, I'd definitely play this card just for an early threat.  He can't be too bad, right?

Nice balance, with the pseudo-firebreathing that only works on players
tacked onto a grizzly bear.  Plus, as a cheap spirit, he's something to get
with soulshift.  Still good lategame, as he becomes a "must block" guy very
quickly.
Constructed 3.5
casual 3.5
limited 3.5
