Loxodon
Warhammer
It is both fascinating and exciting that
equipment is being reprinted in Ninth Edition.
Wizards of the Coast is showing that they intend
their yearly
innovations, as equipment was last year in the
Mirrodin block, to have a future life whenever
possible. Apparently, Loxodon Warhammer will be
the only equipment card in Ninth Edition.
Warhammer is a good addition to the set,
probably more for limited play than for
constructed. Of course, Ninth Edition limited
play is, well, limited to Magic Online players
and the stores that will be running Ninth
Edition release events. This card's abilities
are quite powerful, but the Warhammer's
relatively expensive equip
cost of three mana may keep it from having much
of a future in serious constructed decks.

Loxodon
Warhammer - Wednesday
I'm not a huge fan of equipment unless the cards
is enough to swing the game or win the game on
its on. Umezawa's Jitte, Sword of Fire and Ice;
those are good examples of what I'm talking
about. I'm just not completely sold on the
Loxodon Warhammer. I've seen this thing dominate
limited games and I don't expect that to change.
I just think it will see just a tad bit of play
in constructed. Pretty much, no more than it is
currently seeing.

It's kinda neat seeing equipment in 9th Edition,
and I won't complain about the presence of
Loxodon Warhammer. I don't think this card is
the best piece of equipment (too expensive for
too little); in fact, it is pretty far down the
list. However, I do like having at least one
Spirit Link-like ability floating around just in
case, and if I want something like that, Loxodon
Warhammer is one of the best.
In limited play, I won't complain if I see
Loxodon Warhammer; it will definitely make the
cut. At the very worst, you will be gaining some
life and forcing your opponent into a block that
he or she might not want to make.

Loxodon
Warhammer
Okay, so they made this insane card a rare for
the 9th Edition set. Probably a good thing. In
Mirrodin block, there were many ways to deal
with an artifact. Even so, this card was insane
in limited. In 9th Ed, there will most likely be
much fewer ways to deal with Warhammer, so they
HAD to make this thing a Rare instead of an
uncommon. As it is, it will still be retardedly
broken, and you can bet many a draft player will
be thrilled to see this when they open their
pack.
While you don't see it being played in
tournament constructed, it's pretty darn fun to
have in your casual deck. Of course, you
absolutely, positively take it and play it in
any limited environment.
