Guildmage
This Guildmage rocks. Believe me, I know, I've
been spending every Tuesday night for the past
ten years in a room FULL of Guildmages! In
limited, this card is totally fine for white
decks not playing green as well as green decks
not playing white. However, in limited decks
playing green AND white, Selesnya Guildmage pays
very large dividends. There are lot of ways in
this set to make a 1/1 green token creature each
turn, but there are no other cards that also
give you a way to make them bigger. Friend, pro
tour veteran and future Guildmage Trent Boneau
called this card a tiny version of Kamahl, Fist
of Krosa from Onslaught. This card is a good
example of a card that is as good in limited as
it is BAD for constructed. In constructed, you
simply have lots of better ways to do any of the
things that this card can do.

Guildmage
This card isn't super flashy or anything, but it
can help get the job done. Interestingly, it
fits in White Weenie or Mono-green, due to the
guildmana in it's cost. Both of the abilities
are a little expensive to activate, so that
might be what holds this card back. On the
flispside, both abilities are really good. One
makes creatures and one gives all of your
creatures a bonus. In limited, I would
absolutely play this card. In constructed, I'd
likely only include a copy or two in a deck.

OK, I've got good news and bad news about this
card. The good news? No matter what colors you
managed to draw, you can still play this card as
a bear -- a 2/2 for 2. The bad news? Both of its
abilities are mediocre. You can either pay four
for an expensive Saproling token or you can pay
four for an expensive pump. Neat concept, but I
don't really see this card making too much of an
impact in any deck in which it is featured.

One of the guilds that I will play everytime.
The great thing about the Guilds is you get the
advantage of 2 color abilities for the cost of
only one of those colors. They are very
splashable, and often versatile, making them a
no brainer to play. Selesnya is no exception.
Its no tap abilities are excellent and make the
card worth playing.
