This card is interesting. It's drawing a lot of
attention. It basically lets you pay an
additional mana to power up the speed of one of
your sorceries. That's not a bad thing, but it
does let you draw a card as well. It's a card
that should absolutely see some play.
Pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum
from yesterday's Ink-Treader. Quicken speaks of
incredible possibilities. At the very least it
may help with some concerns that blue players
have about the lack of instant speed card draw
in Standard. Well, now you can cast your
Compulsive Research at instant speed! Or your
Tidings, for that matter. Of course, that's the
simplest use for this little cantrip. The
potential for causing strange situations with
cards that are intended to be used on your own
turn are limitless. You could use it to respond
to mass removal with a Reprocess.
Or
you could use it to cast Roar of the Wurm at the
end of your opponent's turn for a surprising
attacker. I fully expect Quicken to be used or
at least heavily tested in every available
format.
Turn your sorceries into instants - only 1 mana,
AND you get to draw a card. Jury is still out,
but Quicken is getting some early attention, and
we've been selling them well on our Website and
at our store, so the potential is there. Instant
Wrath of God, anyone? In casual, you could use
this to really have some fun, too, and be even
more creative about it. Not so hot in limited,
though it depends on the rest of your card pool.
