I love it when we can end the week on a strong
card. Helix does three damage for two mana,
which is already a nice bonus. It also does two
things - Damage and Life Gain. This give it
multiple purposes and can be used in a wider
range of situations. It's definitely a great
card. This is one of those cards that will be
played for years to come.

Lightning Helix
Now here is an all-around good card. You'll find
Helix played in any format you can get your
hands on it. A quick pick at the draft table,
and then it makes its way into some decent
constructed builds. Three damage that can hit
creatures OR players for two mana is a decent
deal since it's at instant speed, and then throw
in some lifegain for good measure.

Lightning Helix
I
commented a couple weeks ago about my incredible
disappointment at the loss of Lightning Bolt,
back in the late 90's.
Lightning Helix goes a long way towards
repairing this. We've been without a reasonable
option for cheap 3-damage burn for some time
now. Sonic Seizure and Chain of Plasma just
weren't doing it for me. Lightning Helix
represents the first cheap 3-damage burn that
doesn't have a drawback since Incinerate. Those
are some big shoes to fill. The drawback - if
you can call it that - is the white mana, of
course. However, the presence of the new
Ravnican dual lands makes this not such a big
issue. If there is a more important card in the
sligh-style mirror match right now, I can't
think of it.
