Amazing P-T to cost ratio, gives you 4 life
points to boot, can effectively counter any
spell that targets a Beast you control (if your
opponent tries to Lightning Helix it, you can
respond by sacrificing it and then
you gain life instead of them. It even makes a
great
Lord for a tribe that's always got members in
Standard. And that's why I voted for it, because
it's important for the Core Set to support
tribal decks.
Ravenous Baloth
- Until Ravnica gave us Loxodon Hierarch, the
Baloth represented perhaps the best 4-drop green
creature in contemporary Magic. The only flaw
(which was corrected with the Elephant) was that
you could only get life out of it by throwing it
(or another one of your beasts) away. If that's
the biggest problem with a creature, then it's a
good day. I fully expect Baloth to be granted to
us with 10th edition.
As for the Wizards of the Coast 10e voting, I
admit to Ravenous Baloth being a sentimental
favorite of mine. I used to play a Beast deck
back in the day, and while it wasn't always top
on the FNM tournaments, it won a fair deal of
the time, and was a lot of fun when it did go
off. But what makes Baloth good is having a good
choice of Beasts to support it. Soooo...
considering that, if 10th has a lot of good
Beasts, then my vote is for Ravenous Baloth. If
not.... then see tomorrow.
