What is there to say that hasn't already been said about this card? It shaped two formats for a long time. It's referenced a lot when referring to knew cards. It caused some banned/restricted issues for R&D. And honestly, black has not had any card drawing mechanic that's even close to this. Necropotence is the standard to which so many cards are compared and it probably won't be matched for a long time.

This one was before my time. But it's FAMOUS, for Pete's sake. This was THE card to beat in Magic's early days. The Umezawa's Jitte of its time. Being able to fill your hand for a mere 1 life per card, as often as you want, means you can get yourself out of any problem. And of course black decks are used to paying life for other reources.

One of the highly used cards of old school magic. Yes, you're losing life, but you can draw extra cards and try to get to what you need, and card advantage is often huge in Magic.
