Withered Wretch

Withered Wretch is a hard working, but not spectacular creature. In Extended, controlling your opponent's graveyard is often VERY important.
Withered Wretch is just about the most useful card in Extended for keeping your opponent's graveyard empty. Yeah, there are LOTS of artifact cards and black cards that can take cards out of a player's graveyard, but Wretch does it as well as any of the other choices while giving you a 2/2 Zombie Cleric at the same time, which, by the way, makes him a good card for Zombie and Cleric decks as well. In limited, Withered Wretch is just as good a card, but not necessarily as important.

Withered Wretch

I like this card a lot. It's an efficient creature, so you can play it in any creature based deck that is black heavy. Also, it has a great ability. This stops a lot of crazy recursion. In addition, the ability is extremely cheap. And it's useable more than once per turn. It's even more interesting when you look at the fact that it's both a cleric and a zombie. This makes it fit well into more theme decks.

Black has plenty of tools for removing cards in a graveyard from the game. None of them are very useful unless you're also playing something like Empty the Catacombs or Patriarch's Bidding. This one is alright if only because it's a 2/2 for two mana, and it can fit into both Zombie decks and Cleric decks. Mostly a Casual tool for combos, it's also solid in Limited since it shared a block with Flashback, Threshold, and the Incarnations.
