This card might be pretty good in some Sliver
decks. In limited, blue/white is not really the
direction I would prefer to go in Slivers, but
it IS possible. It's nice that Opaline Sliver is
a 2/2 and he does sort of create a problem for
your opponent. Your opponent WANTS to kill your
Slivers, but he DOES NOT want you to draw cards.
Opaline Sliver, almost certainly not your most
dangerous Sliver hopefully, ends up sucking up a
removal spell from your opponent so that he
doesn't have to let you draw MULTIPLE cards.
In constructed, Opaline Sliver sounds like the
kind of Sliver that can force your opponent into
difficult decisions. In constructed Sliver
decks, the sky is the limit where colors are
concerned.
Hey, it's Reparations on a stick! This might get
sideboarded in against several tap effects or
other targeted abilties that don't kill the
creature they target, but why would anyone play
those on a Sliver if you have this out?
Basically it's just Venser's Sliver that might
draw you a card every other game or so.
I love the
flavor here. Reparations was a old favorite. Not
for its ability, which is somewhat lackluster
but for it's flavor text - "Sorry I burned down
your village. Here's some gold." Speaking of
gold - that's just what it is. It's classic
flavor text. In fact it seems a shame that
Opaline Sliver didn't pay homage to this flavor
text which was clearly the best thing about
Reparations. Still, it's a 2/2 which is the
right size for a sliver. And it's got an ability
that makes your more threatening slivers recoup
a bit of losses if your opponent takes them out
first. If you're playing UW slivers you
definitely want this guy.
This one is a bit juicier than some slivers. 3
mana for a 2/2 is already okay, but now if it
gets hit with removal, it replaces itself. As do
the rest of your slivers. I like it a lot. It's
no Crystalline Sliver, but it's probably an
appropriate "fixed" version of the Crystalline.
