Unless the damage prevention is efficient or
very tricky, it's usually not worth using. This
falls into the "not worth using" category. It's
not going to save very many creatures usually.
And even when the effect is useful, you won't
have mana to do anything else.
This card serves one purpose and only one
purpose. To help white snow decks stall. So,
it's awesome in a white control deck with snow
lands. In any other deck, it's useless.

SHIELDS UP! I always know when someone drafts
this at FNM, because they always yell SHIELDS
UP!
Anyway. This really doesn't have a place in
Constructed right now, but you could build a
very cool mana-intensive build featuring Haazda
Shield-Mate and this. Protection with Yosei as a
win condition? Fun times.
In casual, this is just fun as everything. With
8 people not able to kill you with your giant
Cover of Winter, things get highly amusing.
In limited, this is nice. It protects you, and
saves your guys in combat. With enough snow mana
to back it up, this is like a five-turn combat
trick.
