Steamflogger Boss

This is a genuinely entertaining card. This card is unique in that it has an ability that does not function with any existing cards in the game of Magic, causing Riggers you control to assemble TWO Contraptions anytime a single Contraption would be assembled. It’s funny because there AREN’T any Rigger cards in Magic that assemble anything called a Contraption. Ah, but apparently, in the future, there are. This card is genuinely entertaining because it really feels like you are playing a card from the future. Of course, in limited, you will still play Steamflogger Boss, he’s a 3/3 for only four mana. In the very unlikely event that you have a SECOND Steamflogger in your deck, the second one you play will gain +1/+0 and have haste. Not exciting for limited, but perfectly playable. For constructed play, Steamflogger Boss will probably stay in your binder until they print the Riggers that assemble Contraptions.

Steamflogger Boss - Thursday

For all practical intents and purposes, this guy is just an overcosted 3/3.  There's nothing good or creative to do with it.  We'll just have to wait for the future to see what related cards we get.  For now, he's pretty bad.

It's a 3/3 for four mana, with a situational ability that will only become relevant in multiples. Mistform Ultimus doesn't see any play. What makes you think this will?

Thursday - Steamflogger Boss

Interesting card. As of right now we don't know what Contraptions are yet but I'm guessing they will be soon be revealed. In the meantime we have access to the first ability. 4 for a 3/3 is decent already in limited. Now it gives all your creatures +1 and haste. A must play in gruul aggro decks.

Even though Mark Rosewater all but admitted the other day that this card has no real purpose other than to confuse and annoy, I don't hate it. It's kind of neat, in a "Why is Gwyneth Paltrow's hair a different color now?" kind of way. And who knows? When we get a block inspired by the culture of the Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy, you might be glad you have seven of these.
I think it's kind of funny that a card designed to be completely irrelevant is less than completely irrelevant in limited. The more uptight or anti-WotC-corporate-machine drafters at your table might pass you two or three of these (don't laugh, I've seen it happen). And, to paraphrase Dave Price, it is objectively good because it attacks for three.

Arcane
Steamflogger Boss

Constructed: No riggers. No contraptions. No need. There’s really nothing else to say about this. If you’re running it in a deck you probably lost a bet.

Casual/Multi: He’s not going to do much for you here unless you’re playing around with creature types by using cards like Unnatural Selection or Imagecrafter. On top of that you could also use Followed Footsteps to create an army of Steaming piles of flog, but then your deck is based around a bad rare and one that doesn’t do a very good job of winning the game. He doesn’t even give himself the bonus.

Limited: So the only way I had to make this creature worth anything to you in your limited pool is based off of drafting key cards in your TS packs, both of which were Timeshifted: Conspiracy and Mistform Ultimus. Either one of those cards will give you extra “Riggers” with which to give +1/+0 and haste to. But honestly, there’s nothing going for this card beyond that. Maybe if you got a Vesuvan shapeshifter as well, but other than that, I really don’t see him being any better than a hill giant, and there are better cards to fill that role in limited.

This card makes me want to flogg the steam out of the boss at Wizards.  Do I want 4....maybe.  Is it a complete joke...maybe.  Right now it is a 3/3 creature with it's only friend being the nondiscriminating Mistform Ultimas.  We will see what the future brings (but I think it may be dust in a trade binder).

Constructed: 1 (as it now stands)
Casual: 2 (only to make other's less in the loop say "what is that...?")
Limited: 2 (Well it is a 3/3 creature)

What can you say about a hill giant? ... I look at this card and see meaningless text.

PsychoAnime If we get other Riggers in the future and if Riggers are playable, this would
be good. If we get Contraptions in the future, this will most likely be good.

Sadly, the chances of us getting decent Riggers and Contraptions is next to
zero as this is a joke card and so we are left with a 4 mana for a 3/3. It's
actually even worse than Hill Giant as it doesn't even get a boost from
Muraganda Petroglyphs.
