Its ability is narrow to the point where this is
sideboard material. Stymieing discard with a
free 5/5 is a powerful trick, especially since
most discard is in black, the color of Terror
and creatures with fear. Dodecapod is an
artifact creature and thus immune to both of
those. Slaughter Pact, however....

Dodecapod
Dodecapod is an excellent sideboard card against
Rack-style decks, since not many of them can
deal with a 5/5 creature on the first or second
turn. The Rack isn't too popular right now,
which explains the drop in use of Dodecapod
(which is too bad, if you ask me, since it was
one of my favorite cards in Apocalypse and I was
happy to see it come back). Hang on to your
playsets of foil Apocalypse Dodecapods, though,
because discard decks never truly disappear.

Friday's card is Dodecapod, a Time Spiraled card
originally from Apocalypse. Dodecapod is a great
anti-Rack option as instead of going to the
graveyard when it is discarded, it comes into
play with 2 more counters making it a 5/5. You
can't discard it yourself for something like a
Spellshaper, but if you get Stupored, Funeral
Charmed or Thoughtseized, you have a pretty big
body for free. It's a great sideboard option
against discard-heavy decks.
