This is a pretty bad card.
It's basically just a way to gain 4+the power of
the biggest creature you can block, and even
then your opponent might Pyroclasm or bounce it
or whatnot. It is a creature though, and
therefore can be used to Conspire, or wear a
Blight Sickle and actually discourage something
from attacking. Most hilariously is
Mirrorweaving it. "Oh, you're swinging
with everything? All your attackers are
now 0/1, so anything with a -1/-1 counter dies,
and I block everything else to gain 16 life.
Next turn I swing since you're tapped out."
Other than that, it's just not useful enough.

This might as well just read "prevent damage
from a creature without trample, and you gain 4
life". Because, basically, that's what this is.
This will see no play in constructed, because it
doesn't really do anything.
Ditto for limited. This is one of those cards
that you'll see late in the booster after
everyone has snapped up all the stuff that
actually has any sort of use.

I feel this would have been a decent card for
constructed if it didn't have zero power. As
printed, it's basically worse than Suntail Hawk
for any aggressive application (speaking of
which, what ever happened to Bonesplitter?). It
might be playable in limited with the "God
Auras" and Blight Sickle, and the possibility of
a four-life boost late in the race is slightly
tempting, but I would add it to my decks late if
at all.

It has a nice combo with Swampyard, but Martyr
of Sands provides enough life gain and more than
this can normally do. Your opponent would attack
only if he has a good reason to with this out,
so that makes its ability useless.
I'm not a huge fan of this card, but it does
have a small bit of trickery to it. If you had
some way to keep getting it out of your
graveyard, you could keep blocking your
opponents fatty and slowly build your life total
up. That's the best I can say for this card
though. You have to really work to make this
card playable and that's never a good thing.
