With cards like Maelstrom Archangel, Cruel
Ultimatum, and (gulp!) Progenitus out there,
there's no such thing as a prohibitive mana cost
anymore. Prohibitive secondary market prices,
however, are still alive and well, and if you
don't want to shell out the cash for a chase
rare beater, this'll do just fine. It doesn't
die. To... anything, really. Well, okay,
deathtouch, but not much else.

Inkwell Leviathan
There are certain things in Magic we take on
faith: protection is a uniformly good ability,
creatures that die easily are bad, high mana
costs make a card unplayable. Most of those
"certain things" are not true. Protection from
white and protection from red are often better
than protection from black; Tarmogoyf and River
Boa still rock the house despite the literally
thousands of removal spells around; and Inkwell
Leviathan is in the same set as Master
Transmuter, not to mention benefiting from older
cards like Dread Return, Vedalken Engineer,
Mycosynth Lattice, or even Tinker. Be afraid.
