Mycoid Shepherd
I like this card very much. It's a 5/4 for 4, so
it's fast, and when it dies (or anything else
big enough dies), you get a life buffer. LIfe
gain isn't the best ability, but it does make
opponents work that much harder to kill you even
if they do find a way around the enormous fungus
beating on them.

Mycoid Shepherd
You'd usually expect creatures with power 5 or
greater to be causing things to go to the
graveyard, not going themselves. But it does
happen sometimes, and the repayment the Shepherd
gives you when it does is pretty good. At the
very least, it counts itself, meaning it can
swing a game whether it dies or not.
Welcome back today’s card tries to capitalize on
the Naya five power matters theme and doesn’t
quite make the cut I’m afraid. 5 power for four
mana is generally a good deal but the mana is
two colors and the effect is not going to
warrant the inclusion of this card in all but
the jankiest decks. In all constructed formats I
don’t see this card receiving play life gain is
not popular unless attached to a killer card and
this fungus is far from killer, you have no
guarantee of any life gain in which case you
paid mana for a slightly beefy vanilla creature,
decks that run this card would most likely be
better off running wooly thoctor. In casual and
multiplayer this card is not totally worthless
as it can help you gain a ton of life if your
big dudes get removed by wrath of god effects.
In limited it’s a beefy body with a negligible
ability if you’re in color maybe I wouldn’t pick
it first.
