That's right, it's back. The most efficient burn
spell ever printed. I guess after Shard Volley
never saw any play, they figured this wasn't too
powerful anymore. Frankly, I'd say this is
proof-positive that your average creature is
just plain better now that it was when Shock was
printed-- and that was the set that gave us
Psychatog?! Who knows what impact this will have
on the tournament scene. Is 4 toughness the new
3 toughness?
There's an old saying: be careful what you wish
for, because you might just get it. It's been
more than ten years since Lightning Bolt was
last in print, and many successors and homages
have appeared in competitive and casual play
since then, but the legend of the original never
died. Now that it's back, with even better art
and all-new flavor text, what should we expect?
Red decks will undoubtedly strengthen in
Standard and Extended, collectors will pay top
dollar for foils, and "mere" 3/3 creatures will
know fear in a single mountain.
3 damage for R is decent right now as creatures
have gotten a lot better since this last was
printed. So a balanced, efficient burn spell
will obviously see play in all formats.
Constructed: 4/5
Casual: 4/5
Limited: 4.5/5

Magic The Gathering COTD: Lighting Bolt
Welcome back readers, rather than my detailed
analysis this review will be quick and concise.
Lighting bolt is one of the most impressive,
beloved, and iconic burn spells ever printed,
with the release of other powerhouse cards in
M10 Red Deck Wins is looking highly competitive.
If you’re red and need efficient creature
removal/ burn look no further. Lighting Bolt if
your playing red you need a good reason not to
play it in any formats at all ever! Its return
is most welcome and I’m going to go out on a
limb and give it fives because it is so
efficient and has remained a valuable card
throughout Magic’s existence.
