This reminds me of Wings of Velis Vel, a card
I'm surprised doesn't get more play.
Unfortunately, this one leaves your transformed
creatures with 1 toughness, a fact that will
come back to bite you in the now-tiny butt if
your opponent packs Vithian Stinger or Doran the
Siege Tower. But usually this means your smaller
dudes, who probably wouldn't have been able to
attack through the groundblock anyway, will get
to swing in the air for 3 at least a few times.
And besides, this has a very favorable
interaction with +1/+1 counters and other
interesting rules effects.
I like this card. Flying is a simple but
deceptively strong ability, which is probably
why so many fliers are 1/1 and 2/2. The
Mimeomancer makes those creatures hit even
harder, without making them lose other abilities
(hello, Sky Spirit) and without having to pay
any mana. Effects like Glorious Anthem and Aven
Brigadier also apply after the Mimeomancer's
ability, which is just a bonus. Oh, and
Bitterblossom is still around, too.

Aven Mimeomancer
3/1 for 3 is just horribly inefficient in the
power level of today's cards, especially with
the surplus of 1/1 flying tokens. Then compound
that with an effect that doesn't do anything and
you have a horrible card for constructed.
In limited, it's a 3 power flyer for 3 and turns
all your guys into the same for no additional
mana cost.
In multiplayer, this card is even worse than in
constructed as now you have less upkeeps
relative to the number of opponents.
Constructed:
Do not see any real tournament play with this
card, because there are alot of solid creatures
that do not need any help to make them better.
Casual
&Multiplayer:
Some great fun Bird decks could use it to make
smaller birds a little bigger. Throw in one Coat
of Arms and watch the airforce grows.
Limited:
This is a great card to build a deck around and
draft with. Turn all of your little guys into
flying birdies. Flying is always highly pick in
drafts.
Overall a great card for fun and limited play.

Magic The Gathering COTD: Aven Mimeomancer
Welcome back today’s card is an interesting bird
wizard that provides combo potential with
feather counters providing some interesting
multi block synergy. Aven Mimeomancer is a 3/1
flyer for 3 mana, requiring both a blue and a
white mana to cast. In the current constructed
formats this card just doesn’t make the cut.
There is not any deck I know of in standard that
could make use of this card, there are numerous
3 drops in the combination of blue and white
that competitive decks would rather most likely
play. The fact he has no immediate impact on the
board and requires other creatures to function
inhibits his playability to a large extent. If
your opponent has big creatures for you to turn
into smaller creatures Mimeomancer is a slow and
fragile way to accomplish the task. He and the
flyers he creates get wiped by all currently
played board sweepers.
In Extended, Vintage, and Legacy Mimeomancer is
slow, fragile, and entirely not worth the mana
or deck space. Casual and multiplayer games
could benefit from token generators that this
guy can pump into flyers, but then again you
would most likely be better off playing genuine
flying threats not situational ones, aside from
the fact casual has greater threats to play.
Maybe this card could find a niche in casual
player’s bird decks could prove a fun and
interesting combination. In limited a decently
priced flyer that can turn your dudes into
flyers would make a decent pick if you’re in
color and could set you up for a superior
creature assault. Tune in this week for even
more wizard cards!
