A pretty potent mill card. Yes, you can whiff
and mill four lands and nothing else, but name a
milling card that isn't true for. Besides, the
odds of a streak of lands that long are high
enough that you'll usually nab 8 or 10 cards
with this. Especially if your opponent has been
popping Panoramas and Armillary Spheres and
cycling his Igneous Pouncers.
I mentioned last week that the "mill" strategy
is getting better with every new set, and Mind
Funeral is evidence of that. The vagaries of
shuffling mean that you could hit as many as
twenty cards or as few as four cards, but that's
part of the interest, I suppose. And against
One-Land Belcher? Watch out!
Constructed:
I really like this card. It is to bad that
Sanity Grinding decks use alot of blue.
Casual & Multiplayer:
It is good for casual, but multiplayer it is
hard to mill everybody. You get the big target
when it does happen. I think milling is the
worst effect that can happen to someone.
Especially if I have a new deck to try out.
Limited:
In Alara Reborn only draft this card could be
reall dangerous. If you get 2 or more watch out.
Those 40 card decks could be gone before you
know it.
Overall a fun card.

Magic The Gathering COTD: Mind Funeral
Welcome back, today’s card is one that could
possibly become a great asset to any and all
milling decks. Milling in general has been a
creative card concept since Millstone, in the
Ravnica set milling fund a home with the
blue-black oriented Dimir guild, where as in
Alara Esper is the home of milling effects. Mind
funeral is the newest card to appeal to mill
players to help make the archetype more
competitive. I am unsure of the math behind this
card but the ability to mill until you hit four
lands has the potential to be absolutely
devastating. The truth though is that you may
rarely mill a vast amount of cards but denying
your opponent of four lands in his or her deck,
used early game could help to cripple them. It
also has the potential to help stabilize his
draws if he or she doesn’t need anymore land. In
constructed mill is not viable outside of wacky
combo decks and standards Sanity Grinding builds
who opt for the mono blue route. Goblin
Charbelcher decks that normally run the smallest
amount of land possible would be devastated by
this card just a wacky idea. In casual and
multiplayer it will fill a niche for mill
players who are able to strengthen there decks
and mill can be a fun and frustrating strategy
to use at the kitchen table. Limited mill is a
legitimate strategy and denying your opponents
of their lands and other precious cards is a
viable way to win if you’re in the B/U color
combination.
