I expect this card to be pretty well played for
as long as Bloodbraid Elf is Standard legal.
After all, it's a three-drop Goblin with haste,
and playing it off Cascade is still playing it,
so you can pay the kicker to blow up an
opponent's land and swing for 2. It's sort of
like a new take on Avalanche Riders, except
instead of the all-drawack echo, it now has the
optional-upside kicker. And it's a Goblin! How
is that not an improvement?
Kicker always gives you more options, and that's
why we love it. I also loved Avalanche Riders
since the very first time I saw it, and this
crazy little goblin is just about as good.
Versatility is the name of the game (that and
instant pressure). Add Kor Skyfisher for extra
craziness.
Welcome back readers today’s card of the day is
Goblin Ruinblaster a small hasty creature that
can disrupt opponent’s mana bases. In the
current standard with vivid lands and reflecting
pool having rotated the importance of multi
color generating lands have increased, being
able to cheaply destroy those lands important.
Attaching this land destruction to a 2/1
creature with haste is even better. Already
seeing play in Jund deck variants Goblin
Ruinmaster provides much needed playable land
destruction coupled with fast damage that decks
playing red will most definitely want to
utilize. In extended and eternal nonbasic land
destruction is also important, this card may see
sideboard or mainboard play in some decks
utilizing red in extended but it has no chance
in eternal. In casual and multiplayer the
mindset of most casual players gravitates
towards basic lands therefore if there is an
opponent running nonbasic lands this card can
help punish them. This creature’s ability to
swing with haste although prevents it from being
a dead draw. In limited the high availability of
lands at different rarities in Zendikar may
allow red players to snatch up copies of this
card to damage mana bases and damage player’s
life totals. Protip never use this card on fetch
lands thanks.
Today's card of the day is Goblin Ruinblaster a
fairly poor card by itself as a three mana 2/1
even with Haste. The Kicker is one additional
mana to destroy a non-basic land, which brings
the value of the card as a whole to about the
right place as many land destruction effects of
late are around four mana.
For Constructed, Casual, and Multiplayer this is
a fairly mediocre card that does give a two for
one effect which isn't horrible. This could be
included in dedicated Goblin or land destruction
decks, but better choices exist for both.
However, if you just happen to find yourself
running a Goblin based land destruction deck
make sure to pack four of these.
With Limited the two for one effect and Haste
make this a more attractive option as your
choices are far more limited. The kicker effect
may not come into play, but even without it a
2/1 with Haste can be playable. I still consider
this a relatively low pick in Booster and
potentially sideboard fodder in Sealed. It just
isn't solid enough to be a major threat even if
kicked.
