Back at the last release event I went to, at one
point I had two Puncturing Light and a Smite in
my hand, and my opponent had a bunch of
creatures I needed to kill, but couldn't. Why
not? Because they were creatures with tap
abilities, and I had no removal that could
target a creature outside of combat. I wished so
hard that my packs had contained Oust instead of
Smite!
Yes, the removed card goes back into their
library, where they will draw it again and
likely replay it. But in those turns, you can
push them back onto the defensive, possibly
disrupting them enough that the recasting of the
creature is no longer enough. This card will be
excellent in white aggro decks. It may also work
in mill, where you can put a problem creature
away and then mill it off of their library.
You can also use it on your own creatures, just
to gain 3 life, or to get a creature out from
under a troublesome Aura without killing it
outright.
When I first saw the name Oust, I thought it
was was going to do this effect to the creature
with the greatest power, like the
similarly-named Topple. Not that this is any
worse: in fact, when it prevents them from
drawing something even scarier in two turns, it
may be much, much better. Don't use it against
Bloodbraid Elf, though.
Welcome back readers today’s card of the day is
interesting white removal from Rise of the
Eldrazi. It would be too easy to write this card
off and say its not instant then its crap. Well
I may have to do just that, with the increase of
powerful white cards the most powerful and
prevalent removal being Path to Exile this card
won’t see play in any format other than limited
for the most part. In standard Path is instant
and in most situations strictly better. Also
there is Journey to Nowhere and Oblivion Ring
that would see play instead of this card. In
extended and eternal no chance at seeing play
most of the time. In casual and multiplayer this
card may see some play but not extensively. In
limited its semi removal I would draft it its
cheap and can clear threat for a turn and slow
down opponents tempo. Overall this card is not
good at all. I will issue a public apology if
this card does become big tech anytime soon
thanks.
Today's card of the day is Oust which often
draws comparisons with Path to Exile as they are
both one mana removal, but Oust puts the
creature second from the top of the library and
gives three life. It can be a difficult
choice while both are legal in Standard, but the
sorcery speed on Oust leaves it a bit less
versatile. The life gain can be better
compared to the land gain in some situations,
but until Path rotates out of standard expect it
to remain the primary White removal choice.
In Limited this is great card for dealing with
Eldrazi and their high mana costs or sacrificing
of tokens as it sets an opponent back quite a
bit. Easily a second, third, or fourth
pick in Booster after a major rare or bigger
bomb and easily worth including in any deck with
White mana in Sealed.
